I bought this for a thru hike of the AT. I ha e been using it and the features are great for what it is. The one complaint I have is the battery life. I only get a few days of life out of it with all tracking and Bluetooth off. Maybe I am doing something wrong and would love to know.
The convention of a small size requires the phone of tablet near by. I am from the camp that the InReach should be a PLB by itself however the text function is a huge selling point. The smaller size makes it very difficult to author a text message outside of the preset and without the phone interface. Needed one so I went back to Garmin for the network and I buy the insurance for the big trip(no review because I never had to use the insurance). This can be made half size bigger and still be half the size of a SE and perhaps not require a tethered phone

Thank you for your review and experience with the inReach Mini. We would like to discuss this further over email. If you would please email us at product.support@garmin.com.
I received inReach Mini three weeks ago as a gift and I do no like it. The instructions are very short and incomplete, and mot helpful. The device was not user friendly, nor was the App user friendly. An email was assigned which I found out about through another person. Because of this I do not intend to use it.

I'm older now and my wife gets worried whenever I don't have some reception now I feel comfortable going anywhere I want because she now feels comfortable
I spend a lot of time in the remote areas of the Guadalupe mountains in south east New Mexico with this device I am able to keep in contact with my wife and kids and have the piece of mind with the s.o.s button if needed.
Excited to try out the new Garmin inReach Mini on trip to McCall ID. Will be nice to let family know that all is well when out riding each day. iPhone app needs some work.
This is a must. If your like me, you don't tell people where your going. This unit is easy to use. Small enough to just clip on your pack. My wife lives the fact she can look on the computer to see where I'm at and that I'm OK.
I used it while deer hunting in northern Pennsylvania and was very pleased with the ability to communicate in remote rugged terrain! Amazing technology!
