Maybe just me, but a few things that bother. Once turned on, I can not tell if it has connected with satellites, unlike my gps unit. When I press send for a message I can not tell if it went thru, sometimes it doesn’t. I would feel better if unit would display when connection to satellites and message sent was displayed.

This device gives my wife so much peace of mind while I'm out on the trail. We're able to easily communicate so she knows where I'm at and how I'm doing. There's certainly a learning curve to devices like this if you're brand new to them, but everyone should take something with an SOS button with them when they travel deep in the backcountry. This one's nice because it's so small and lightweight. Remembering to reactivate your subscription is the only big bummer if you're not out exploring at least every month.
I have used the inreach explorer with map function and I would recommend purchasing it over the mini.

Device links to your phone and super easy to use. It's small and doesn't take up any space. One of these type devices is critical to being rescued alive in a bad situation.
