I have used the inReach since they first hit the market. From sailing offshore and remote fjords of Alaska to packrafting in Central America to splitboarding in the high mountains of Alaska you will always see this product in my pack list. Not only do you have the peace of mind of one of the worlds largest safety net at the push of a button but you can let your family and friends in on the adventure. Going to be late from your trip? Let your loved ones know all is well. Want to tell your partner good night before you crawl into that sleeping bag? Want a GPS with downloadable maps on your cell phone? Here is the product that will do it all!

Light weight, I can keep in contact with my people while out in the mountains and have the added security of SOS feature. Also, light weight! 3.5 oz.

Excellent tool for solo adventuring above the ground

I did a lot of research prior to buying this and what sold me was the satellite network and the presence of a screen on it to use if my phone was dead. I do a lot of solo backpacking and mountaineering and this gives me a relative piece of mind, while keeping in mind that self rescue is always more likely to save me than the SOS button. Used in Alaska, Sierras, Utah, White Mountains etc, this piece of gear allowed me to stay in touch with loved ones and have a way to let people know if I got into trouble. I like to separate navigation and communications so I do not used its tracking, but use the messaging a lot. It is very light and small but locks on service well even in northern Alaska or in snowfall conditions, messages sometimes had trouble to send between mountains under tree cover but that is expected, they still went out eventually.

Get One!

If you spend any significant time in the backcountry, there is no excuse to not have one of these (or another similar device). This thing is extremely light and easy to use. I've had it for about a year and it has gone on all of my climbing, skiing, and hiking trips into the backcountry. It certainly seems durable, which I am glad for because I will be using it for a long time.

This device gives my family peace of mind while I'm in the backcountry. For me it's also nice to know that if things go wrong all I have to do is push one button. It is so easy to use & works perfectly!

I used this in the Boise National Forest recently on a public land mule deer hunt. It worked great to communicate with my wife 2000 miles away while is was out there.
