Amazing little device. If you're not under open skies and attempt to send a message, it may never go through or at least have a really long delay. But that's pretty expected. I feel safer knowing I have this on me at all times. Plus it's super useful for getting weather forecasts when you're remote and waiting for a weather window.

My Garmin inReach has allowed me to plan my next adventure while already on one, remain in contact with family members during long and intense storms, and have a reliable way to cal for help if the need arises. The Earthmate app pairs nicely and makes using this very simple and user friendly. I would highly recommend this for anyone looking to do any adventures in the back country, whether they or just for a day or even for a few months.

Sleek, lightweight, and works great! Use for hunting from Montana, Michigan, to Alaska!

Safety in comms

This device has been absolutely essential on both solo and team missions. I have been using it on backcountry skiing for people to follow me when solo. Paragliding for pick ups and again safety following and on climbing trips for safety and communications if I have been out too long. I also communicate with office when guiding. There is service model for all tiers of users. Also light enough to bring on all missions and battery life if enough for days!

The screen you navigate though is TINY. You need an apple phone to use the app which comes along with this, which for shorter adventures is fine, but I hate being tethered to it outdoors. It's nice as a backup, I think I prefer the Inreach Explorer if looking for a completely off grid experience with maps and text capacity without the need of your phone.

The first time I used this was on a SAR mission to find some lost hikers. We created waypoints using the GPS coordinated they were able to give via cell phone and headed cross country to their position. My InReach Mini performed just perfect and our mission was a success. The device interface4s just fine with my iPhone and I can share my track, position , etc. with the rest of the team. I also use this on backpacking trips to give my wife peace of mind that all is well with me.

Text from my phone

This is great tech. I love that I can use my phone app to type the text and email. The battery life was great during a 6 night backpacking trip (I shut it off during the night). The smaller size saves weight. To me it is worth the extra weight for the added safety.

Never leave home with out it

Works as advertised although 2 way messaging is very slow, but better than no com.
Reasonably priced messaging and monthly is totally worth and I got the extra rescue insurance.
Size makes it an easy choice to always have with.
Great for beginner to expert.
Definitely not the easiest to use stand alone, but paired to your phone, typing and tracking and map viewing is great.
Saved my 42 year old friends life when he was a heart attack in the remote Sierras. You never know!
