Essential Equipment
on June 8, 2020

Completely essential equipment for multi party/person coordination out of cell range. Once you setup and learn the device, it's pretty fantastic. Leave it clipped to a shoulder strap and use the app interface on your phone. If I'm out for days at a time, I'll turn off the bluetooth to save a little battery, but the drain seems negligible. I use the cheapest subscription plan and accept that $.50/txt is fair price for communication anywhere in the world. Just make sure to set up your preset messages in advance on the Garmin site.

The InReach has great map connectivity and has provided peace of mind to loved ones while out on the bike and hiking. Wished we had one sooner!

Clever design, small package

Great device for keeping family and friends up to date while adventuring. Clever design between device and app allows for texting through a paired phone keyboard, and message setup from a PC. Plus the security that help is only an SOS button press away.

I've been a Spot user for 14 years. Spot still makes a good product but it pales in comparison to the Garmin Inreach in regards to features, ease of use, flexibility, size, and interoperability across multiple device platforms. The carabiner and webbing are heavy duty for a device its size which was important to me. The navigation through the menus is very efficient with the four buttons that it comes with. The Earthmate app makes using inreach even more efficient. Even more amazing is the Garmin Explore website which makes setup even more custom and easy if you don't want to use a smartphone app. I appreciate the size of the Garmin inReach Mini versus the Spot X or even the Spot Gen 3 which is still much larger than the mini. I love that I can control the inreach with my Fenix watch and phone. I cannot stress enough how awesome this thing is.

Great device that is light weight to bring easily on any adventure. It is great to have peace of mind to have communication even when you are deep in the backcountry.
