I travel a lot in areas that do not have any cell service and this is a great and sometimes only option to communicate back to base.

Good tool to have!

Not sure why I haven't gotten one of these sooner for all the solo exploring I do while trail running. Needed a way to call for help in case I didn't have cell service. Have only had this for a few weeks now but I love how you can text out with bluetooth on your phone when you don't have service. I'll be taking this with me this winter in the backcountry, too.

The ease of use, app pairing, messaging functionality, tracking, and battery life make this a must have for any alpine athlete.

The inReach Mini has been very effective to use while out of cell range. The pairing of the device to my phone was straightforward and works very effectively.
It takes some time to figure out how to message other inReach devices, but once you get their inReach email programmed into your device, it works great.
Things I'd like to see improved? More ability to edit your settings, contacts, pre-programmed messages, etc right in the Earthmate app vs having to do some functions on a desktop computer. In addition, having mail get auto-checked more frequently would be nice.
Great tool that I'll continue to use while out enjoying quiet places.

Great for getting weather and communicating in the backcountry in addition to emergency use. Can be slow to send/receive sometimes, but I haven't had it fail me yet.

Rugged, lightweight, and (relatively) inexpensive satellite communicator. Worked like it should out of the box.
Took a little time to set up both the device and a Garmin account but once they were it worked like a charm. Strong, fast satellite signal. Pairing it with an iPhone was easy and certainly made messaging easier. (It also allows you to pinpoint your location on a topo, which is a nice feature that only works when paired with a smartphone.)
Some complain about the small screen and small buttons but I did not find them that difficult to use. In fact, I wouldn't worry if one day my phone was lost/broken/dead. It works fine as a standalone device.
Battery life, even with BT pairing on, was surprisingly good. I used it for almost 36 hours straight on a single charge. If, on a longer trip, you turned it on to only check-in once a day, I'm sure the battery would last for weeks.
This thing was worth every penny. Overall, really satisfied.
