Hunt safely and keep family from worrying

Used the mini on a backcountry elk hunt this year to give updates to family back home when out of cell service. Worked great. Easy to use with the smartphone app to compose and send text messages. Hardly knew it was there on my pack. Plans are very reasonable for year round use and the ability to bump up to an unlimited plan for heavy usage is great.

I used this devise as an emergency contact for when I needed to stay out in the field for work but was expecting a baby any time. It allowed me to confidently practice my craft while knowing I wouldn't miss the birth of my daughter!

I like the unit and I always keep it in my pack. Just plan on using it with your smart phone. Its not great as a standalone gps device but I think it was made to use with a smartphone. When using the garmin software on your phone the texting takes time but it is great to have a form of connection in emergency. The tracking is nice, My wife can track where I am at without having to send messages. As for the gps map side of it my phone with various phone apps is better. I download the maps on my phone and use that for all the tracking and waypoints. The gps on my phone picks up my location much faster than this unit. With all that being said I like the peace of mind that this offers. I can text if need be, I can send the SOS if I get hurt, and I can be tracked by whoever I give the link to. For those last 3 features, the unit is great and I will always have the unit with me when I head to the hills.

It doesn't work

I bought this thinking I could text my family while I'm out hunting not in cell phone service. Battery is very weak does not last as long as advertised. For the money I spent I would've expected something better. It is very slow to send a message.

This is the perfect communication tool for the back country. Small and light so weight was negligible with backpacking. I really like the ability to send and receive texts to provide family peace of mind. Great for hunting, bike packing, overlanding as well.

Great little device, so convenient to use when synced to my phone. Lightweight, durable, and very easy to use once you figure out all the settings. I set up my account to allow people to follow me on trail, which gave friends and fam peace of mind this year with Covid plus all the fires here in California while on the JMT. Super happy with my purchase, would recommend!
