If you need a SOS satellite capable device it is adequate. If you want great mapping features and an easy to use unit, don’t even consider this unit. Just to activate and plot one track took several hours, the in Reach mini, a smart cell phone, and a computer. I also had to download a syncing app. Garmin software seems to be up to date for 1998 technology. Worst software applications I’ve worked with and I work for a government agency. The mapping is horrible, the user interface is awful.

I bought this a few weeks ago primarily to have with me out on boating trips. Definitely a pain to setup completely and correctly. Directions arent very clear. Honesly, I am not really sure how I ended up getting it to sync or I would share.

I've been using it for month now practice makes it easier to understand. I'm a hands-on learner so practice was needed. I especially liked syncing with my phone.

Overall, I am very happy with this device and would buy again/recommend. Pros - Great battery life, lightweight/small, easy to navigate the device, and easy to use the phone app to type messages (connecting through bluetooth).
Cons - occasionally reports poor gps signal (though it has always been for short periods of time)
I got this for a Christmas present. I downloaded the latest software. I cannot get it to sync with the garmin system. And yes I went outside in a clear view of the sky in ALL directions and my unit wouldn't sync.
