Best Hiking Partner

It is nice to know that help or a loved one is only a button push away. The SOS feature speaks for itself. The texting feature makes it nice to let my wife or kids know that " I am starting my hilke", "I am on the summit". " I am heading down" or that "I am back at the truck". Better yet, if something happens at home, while I am in the backcountry, they can let me know as well. I even take it on business trips when flying. This is a subscription service that I will gladly pay for. Please note that depending on subscription service, numbers of texts are limited. Having said that,I would not leave home without it.

We’ve had this for about 2 1/2 years. My only complaint is that when someone messages you, the alarm is such a pain to silence. You would think that when connected to my tablet it would silence when you view the message from Earthmate

Does the job

I use inReach Mini for my hiking and climbing trips and as an additional source of rescue contact while flying a single-engine airplane.
So far was lucky enough not to use SOS feature. Sent preset and dialed-in texts to my contacts from the climbing trips. Works well as a source of communication where there is no cell coverage. Connection with iPhone makes some features easier (like reading incoming texts), but the app definitely lacks some crucial functionalities, like adding/editing contacts. All in all, I’m staying with it for two years now

You never notice it until you need it. Great way to keep in touch with family when in the backcountry. They also have great customer service and flexible subscription plans.

My wife has peace of mind when she tracks my rides

My wife needs to know I'm safe when I go out on a solo motorcycle ride in the mountains. I asked around and 99% of the motorcycle riders i know recommend the garmin mini.

Great for staying in touch

I use the inReach primarily for staying in touch with people. It’s great for messaging people when I’m out of cell range. The preset messages are great since they don’t count against your message limit. I like the fact that you can adjust the plan you’re on based upon your needs. I’ve used it for navigation and it did fine but I find that my iPhone does just as good a job on its own. Never used the SOS feature (and I hope I never have too) but it’s good to know I have it should anything come up.
