Very Happy

I love, my wife loves it. Can stay in communication no matter where I go. Went on three hikes (two 9hr and one 5hr) and still has 50% battery !!!!!

Device for your safe in outside cellular coverage area and subscription is required. Garmin Explorer App still not support.

Great Emergency Preparedness Device

The inReach Mini is incredibly small and light, allows you to press a button when you're in trouble and have them send the cavalry. It differs from a Personal Locator Beacon in that it also allows you to communicate with the rescue coordinators by text, lets you text with anyone, and lets you send your location or post it to map share so friends and family can track your progress. I returned mine though, and bought the inReach Mini 2 for the better battery life, USB-C charging and multiple GPS satellite capability since I travel to some pretty remote places internationally.

Garmin mini

Bought this a month ago. It’s difficult to see as without reading glasses ,but my eyes are old now. I hope I never need this I bought just for emergencies. It’s very difficult to use being small also for me is too complicated navigating thru it is just a pain. I know It will get easier after I learn I’m sure but I really don’t want to bother with it. I used the 10 free texts immediately and am having trouble sending the preset texts for free. I just went back to my iPhone and just have it for emergencies oh well I have it just in case.

Works just as I had hoped

I bought this to use not only for personal use but also on my SAR calls. Latest experience : Lost hikers called in to 911- they were able to send us their coordinates which we entered as a waypoint on each of our InReach Minis. Our team was able to locate the lost party and track our progress through the steep and brushy Big Sur backcountry in the middle of the night. We guided the party to safety - locating a trail identified on the Garmin Earthmate map. Would have been nearly impossible to pull this off without this device.

Worth it!

Someone I know recently very nearly lost his life on a camping trip, which made me realize how life saving something like this can be. I find myself out of cell service most weekends so this is well worth it to me just in case.

Difficult to use

I bought this for Christmas and activated it in January to get familiar with it before using it this summer for hiking and backpacking. I am an old guy and not very techie. I did acquire the Earthmate app. I find the unit often confusing to use and am never very confident it is doing what I intend it to do, which is imperative for this kind of unit. What is the use in having something like this to help when you are in trouble if you can't be confident that it delivers the message you want to the people you want? I probably would not get it again. I then hopefully would not have emergencies in the backcountry (not really a good Idea at my age, but I have been very frustrated with the inReach mini). Phooey!! For a techie I am sure it is not a problem, but all I want is a device that can help me if I am in trouble. The Mini can do so much more but that adds to the confusion. A simpler version just for emergencies would be a real blessing for many of us.

Good, but not as user friendly as I'd hoped.

I recently purchased the inReach mini 2. I have briefly used the original mini and the new interface does seem more user friendly. Paired with a phone it didn't have any issues sending or receiving messages.
That being said, this device works best paired with a phone. The mini itself is not as user friendly or intuitive as I'd hoped. I was excited about the tracback and bread crumbs feature, but when I actually tried to use it I found the interface to be lacking and that it did not work as seamlessly as garmin claims in their marketing material.
