I bought this for back country snowmobiling. Read the manual. Watch the videos. The thing SUCKS to get working but when it works it’s great. Sometimes it does not connect to my phone and doesn’t send the pins to my mom which is the main reason I got it but once you figure it out. After about a year. It works great!

It is an exceptional product and helps keep peace of mind by communicating with Family while in remote backpacking/over-landing trips. Exactly performs as advertised. Definetly will recommend this great product.

The manual is not very helpful to someone using the inReach for their first time. Simple things, like “there’s no off button; it will turn itself off after __ minutes” and “this will happen when you test it” and “your contact will receive messages from you only when…” would have made the learning curve a LOT easier.

In 2020 I hiked the Highline Trail in Glacier National Park and struggled but passed it off as the altitude. In the Spring of 2021 after having some chest pain I was diagnosed as needing a triple heart bypass. I did not have an inReach in 2020 but after surgery and cardio rehab I have one now. I continue to walk/hike in preparation for Angels Landing in 2022 and I won't be going without it. I have used it extensively this past month learning and becoming comfortable with it and I have been very impressed with it. No deep canyons or valleys in SW Georgia but plenty of tree cover and as far as I can tell the tree cover has had no loss of signal issues with with. Very easy to set up and a lot of YouTube videos showing you how. Linked to my Android phone and Garmin Fenix 6 Pro making it very easy to send and receive messages and turn tracking on and off. Since I am only a day hiker I have not used more than 25% of the battery in a day so battery life is a non issue for me.

Was able to set it up and use it very quickly. After being out of reach, pun intended, on a couple MTB rides where family got worried and I did too as they may not know my exact location, having this device is a game changer in comfort and confidence.

I've been testing the inReach Mini for the last couple of weeks. Once I got the app(s) installed (one on my phone and another on my desktop) and configured it, I took it out on the trail and it works just fine. I've been tuning some of the parms and find it pretty easy to configure.
