I was not able to set the program up, so I have not used it yet. My daughter has one and she said she will help me

Thank you for your review and experience with the inReach Mini. We would like to discuss this further over email. If you would please email us at product.support@garmin.com. Thanks Jenny
I bought an inReach Mini to be able to call for help if needed and to give peace of mind to my family that they can click the link and see my progress. I've used it several times to track hikes and have with me while rock climbing where there is no cell service and it's worked great. Every responsible party exploring the outdoors beyond the reach of cell towers must have a way to signal for rescue and the inReach Mini is the best value available in terms of size and cost.

This is our second inReach; we already owned the full-sized version. We bought the mini to have a secondary SOS device for backcountry skiing, and something more compact to use while trail running. So far, the inReach mini has been amazing. It is easy to set up, very user-friendly, and the size is fantastic -- I can easily carry it in the waist belt pocket of my ski pack, and it is comfortable to stow in my running vest. I have not used the SOS function on it (and hope I never have to!), but the peace of mind it provides is invaluable. Would definitely recommend to anyone who does not need the mapping capability of the full-sized unit, or anyone who wants an SOS device that is so convenient to carry and use it's impossible to not take it on every trip.

I had a SPOT device and mentioned to my wife I wanted something better. This past year I received the inReach Mini as a gift for Christmas from her. I am so happy and ready to continue our back country adventures knowing the peace of mind that the device gives us. San Juan Mountains of Colorado here we come!!

I bought this as a safety addition to my hiking gear. I’m hiking a lot by myself and I like to know that I can summon help anytime anywhere if needed. I’m also hiking Kilimanjaro next month and my friends and family will be able to follow my progress online.

The inReach Mini stays attached to my ski pack for both day trips and overnight excursions. Have not had to use the device yet in an emergency setting -- but the battery life has been exceptional and true to spec. Where other devices on me will die due to cold weather (e,g, iPhone, GoPro, etc.) the battery on this will stay going (even when hanging on a clip outside of my pack).

While I like the idea of the product, it does have a procedure that is hard to understand. For example, while I finally figured out how to send a "New Message" to my wife, I still can't figure out how to send a "Preset Message" to her. To send a "New Message" you just scroll down and click on "OK" then click on "Select Contacts". I then scroll down and find her name and select it. Then click on the "Back or Return" button and it takes you to "Write Message". You can click on "Write Message" which then takes you to an alphabet screen where you have to choose each individual letter in you message. But if you scroll on down below "Write Message" you'll see "Pick Quick Text" which has set messages ready to send. So that works pretty good. But, I think the "Pick Quick Text" messages cost you each time you send one. Instead if you choose "Pre-set Message" there is no charge. Unfortunately, I can not figure out how to send a "Pre-Set Message" to my wife. If I click on one of the three messages it doesn't take me to a "Contacts" screen. It goes directly to "Send" screen. If I click on "Send" it sends the message I've selected to my email. What am I doing wrong? I suspect I've set up something wrong on my account but after reviewing it many times and re-listing her as a contact, the "Pre-Set Message" always goes to my email but not to her.
