Peace of Mind

My boyfriend and I hike a lot. We're usually not in complete wilderness, and not for extended periods of time. However, given the frequency with which we hike, it's nice to have the peace of mind of the inReach Mini. It's not the *easiest* to get set up, but it's not too bad.

Difficulty setting up and not working

I bought this product before a solo trip from Geneva lake to Snowmass Lake, and back. The reason was to update my family letting them know I was safe during a couple of days of solo backpacking in remote areas. I purchased the Gamin inReach Mini, with software for my iPhone. It looked as though my text messages went through when I sent them from the back country but I returned to find they did not. NO MESSAGES WERE RECEIVED.

Cool Device!

I ordered my inReach Mini a week or two ago. I like the capabilities of this device, especially for safety and for use in potential emergencies.
I have had some minor issues figuring out navigation and setting my recipient(s) for preset messages. There's a bit of a learning curve to set it up and to get it running correctly. User interface on the Explore Garmin website can be a bit confusing. I am getting used to the menus and controls on the device. I had to keep going back to Explore Garmin often. I also had to watch a few video tutorials to iron out all the little issues. I think this device will be very helpful in the future.

This thing is great. Garmin is great. You do need a clear view and things can be slightly delayed but it is basically perfect and extremely useful.

It's not perfect

I used this in alaska to keep in touch with family while I was hunting. It worked flawlessly messaging some, but others never received my messages. I also had a friend with me and he had an inreach device as well and we were near eachother at all times messaging inreach to inreach and sometimes we did not receive eachothers messages at all...it was a bummer because we were both hoping this would be a great way to let eachother know when we were leaving the hills and heading back to camp....didn't work as well as we hoped. Seemed to work better without the earthmate app, was more reliable. Maybe it's the app that was making it hard for the messages to go through? If so it would be amazing for this to be fixed. I wasn't expecting something perfect, just reliable...and this device was not reliable. Does it work? Yes, definitely...just not 100% of the time. So I will definitely continue using this device to keep in contact with family and or messaging inreach to inreach device while hunting.

Inreach mini

We love it we. My husband travels remotely in Alaska where there is no cell service. We have been able to stay in contact constantly and I can also see his location.
