Nice little unit.

Have not had a lot of spart time to get to know it. Shawn from your tech support in Salem, Or was a great help to get my wife online to see where I was. Know there are a lot of features that I may learn. Am an old Spot 3 user but had some problems with the company and the spot 3 was pretty featurless and sometime not so good in the trees. Will have to see how the inreach mini does in the trees as soon as the snow is gone.

Bought this for snowmobiling in the back country to know where we are and be able to text if needed.

Excellent little device!

This little thing is packed with features but the most useful ones are never too far away. It’s pretty easy to use and gives me great peace of mind when I go out in the backcountry alone knowing that I can message my family or emergency services outside of cell coverage. It connects with my Garmin Instinct watch and that’s pretty neat. I love how portable the unit is. The only thing that I would change is I would integrate the Garmin Explore app that you get with their watches and the Earthmate app you get with the InReach mini and have one app that talks to both devices. Also puzzled that the Earthmate app doesn’t let you search for locations, you have to scroll to them on the map.

The device is great, the subscription is lacking

The device is great the only gripe I have is with the subscription services. The mid tier plan is sub par and I cannot justify the price of the unlimited plan

Awesome addition to my Adv Bike, no matter how far from home I am, my family is able to know my location.

Good, but not as user friendly as I'd hoped.

I recently purchased the inReach mini 2. I have briefly used the original mini and the new interface does seem more user friendly. Paired with a phone it didn't have any issues sending or receiving messages.
That being said, this device works best paired with a phone. The mini itself is not as user friendly or intuitive as I'd hoped. I was excited about the tracback and bread crumbs feature, but when I actually tried to use it I found the interface to be lacking and that it did not work as seamlessly as garmin claims in their marketing material.

Difficult to use
on February 17, 2022

I bought this for Christmas and activated it in January to get familiar with it before using it this summer for hiking and backpacking. I am an old guy and not very techie. I did acquire the Earthmate app. I find the unit often confusing to use and am never very confident it is doing what I intend it to do, which is imperative for this kind of unit. What is the use in having something like this to help when you are in trouble if you can't be confident that it delivers the message you want to the people you want? I probably would not get it again. I then hopefully would not have emergencies in the backcountry (not really a good Idea at my age, but I have been very frustrated with the inReach mini). Phooey!! For a techie I am sure it is not a problem, but all I want is a device that can help me if I am in trouble. The Mini can do so much more but that adds to the confusion. A simpler version just for emergencies would be a real blessing for many of us.

Worth it!

Someone I know recently very nearly lost his life on a camping trip, which made me realize how life saving something like this can be. I find myself out of cell service most weekends so this is well worth it to me just in case.
