I ride motorcycle in a lot of places with no cell service. I bought it mostly for the SOS feature. Hopefully I will never have to use ti but it is peace of mind for myself and my wife when I am out on the bike.
Almost useless as a communication device - unable to get it to connect to satellites consistently, and Bluetooth connection with phone is spotty. Sent a message to my wife and she got it 3 days later. Keeping it for the SOS feature, but will get rid of it after the AT
I have had this for 5 years and it’s been good. It still works. Although I would say it is getting a lot long in the tooth in 2026. I would recommend purchasing the newest model you can afford. And if that is the mini2, don’t. Save up for a mini3.
I bought it used from a guy so instructions were la kong. I used it in Montana and it was just ok. I need to update it I think

Bought this to communicate with my hunting partner during our recent elk hunt to communicate inreach to inreach. Absolutely didn’t work for us. Sometimes had to wait several hours to receive messages

The inReach Mini uses the Iridium satellite network to send and receive messages, which can sometimes result in delays (especially in areas with heavy tree cover, deep canyons, or limited sky view). Unlike walkie-talkies or direct radio communication, inReach-to-inReach messaging still relies on satellites, and both devices need a clear line of sight to the sky to send/receive effectively.
That said, you shouldn't be experiencing delays of several hours in most conditions. We’d love the chance to troubleshoot this with you or make things right. Please reach out to our support team at 1-800-800-1020 (Monday-Friday, 7am-7pm Central) so we can investigate further and help ensure your device is working as intended for your next trip.
We appreciate your honest feedback and hope to help turn your experience around.
