Just Right

Perfect add to my kit for going out of bounds and having emergency services if needed, plus keeping home base informed. Easy to configure, easy to use, lots of flexibility. Paired with smart phone app and computer, I am very satisfied with the additional level of communication, emergency service, and trip planning tools.

amazing little device

I would be giving a 5 star review if the Earthmate app was slightly better. Overall I think the app is mediocre at best compared to the amazing abilities of this device. So the device does everything you need it to. It links to your phone via Bluetooth. You can see maps, send texts, and even receive weather reports. The products commands you to get a data plan but well worth it for any adventurer who wants a safety device. I would 100% recommend this device to any outdoor enthusiast who knows they are going to be receptionless.

Great device poor software
on April 23, 2019

Bought 1 week ago. Used in backcountry for 3 days. Device works well. The software only works on your phone or tablet not a pc. Pc compatible only through online portal which makes trip planning without WiFi impossible. If Garmin can create a downloadable program for a laptop this problem will immediate become null and void. Until then. Average product.

All of your account information is accessible via your internet portal which can be accessed on any internet capable device including PC's: www.explore.garmin.com. You can trip plan outside of a wifi zone using the Earthmate app on your mobile device

Everything works, no problems.

Make sure to read the online manual carefully, and download the software. I've already sent and received text messages and emails from remote places with zero problems. Very happy with the (tiny) unit.

Great so Far!
on April 26, 2019

I recently bought the inReach Mini and used it on a hike for the first time today. It was mountainous terrain with tree cover down low and open alpine areas up high. All messages were sent quickly and completely. I also tested having the inReach Mini receive replies and it worked without a hitch. Looking forward to the peace of mind of having my wife be able to reach me while I'm backpacking in the Bob Marshall Wilderness this year. The inReach mini was easy to use, even with gloves on.

The Garmin InReach Mini is a fantastic product in size and function. Only complaint would be the subscription service could be less expensive.

Only used once, but so far works fine

Setup was simple and straightforward, as was the activation. Satellite subscription fees and plans are costly and there aren't enough options. Pairing the inReach with an iPhone worked well and the Earthmate app, while pretty ancient and poor, works OK. I mainly got the inReach for the SOS services and for 2-way communication. It should serve those purposes just fine.

Worst Out of the Box Experience in Years, if Ever
on May 5, 2019

I cannot remember a worse out of the box experience on something that cost me several hundred dollars to acquire. The online aspect of the ecosystem -- required for the Mini to function -- is poorly and confusingly designed, offers critical advice at the wrong point (and doesn't explain the consequences of making the available choices) and generally looks and acts like it was designed by someone who just discovered the web. Worst of all, barely 1 in 4 of the test messages I've sent (!!!) ever arrives at its destination, and there is >>no<< indication when a message fails to get through. Which is extremely bad performance, and design, for something intended to be used in difficult and/or emergency situations. I strongly recommend that buyers look elsewhere for the capabilities purportedly offered by this product. Oh, and BTW, to the cretins who designed this review collector: extremely bad form to require ad blockers to not run, and then be so poorly programmed that your site doesn't recognize when the adblocker is suspended. Makes you wonder what's really going on with your site, and gives a bad rep to your clients.
