It's really flimsy, and things don't stay on well. But it you stick smaller base plates on it things stay on.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I think I understand what you mean about this being flimsy. This baseplate is large, 15 inch square, and is designed to be a building surface for your creations. As a baseplate you are not able to connect any elements to the bottom of this and it is not designed to be something you move around with your creations on.
Due to the size and purpose of this model you are correct in noticing it can be viewed as flimsy. If that does not make sense think of a tree branch. If you hold a foot long tree branch in your hand it will not bend but if you hold a longer piece the weight of the branch will make it bend or arc.
Try using your baseplate on a flat surface and not moving it around and I believe you will be more than satisfied.

"The system"

We are using these bases to make a homemade lego table because we outgrew out other one. I butted them up to each other measured everything trimmed them to fit glued them down, waited for everything to dry and then come to find out the factory cut lego edges when butted together do not have the correct lego "system" spacing. I was a little more than disappointed to find that out after purchasing 6 of these. I dont know why they would be made that way.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Recently purchased one of this base plate as a foundation to one of my city builds. Grey is good for concrete areas with buildings next to a road plate. Perfect on a flat surface like a table, despite what everyone says about it being thin and what not.
