Malfunction with microwave door

Whenever I shut the door to the microwave it automatically turns on and starts running. I have tried unplugging and plugging back in but the problem still remains. I would like to get some feedback on what I should do. I would rate this microwave 5 stars if I could get it back to normal operating status.

Hello EC16 - Thanks for your choosing GE and sharing your concern. If the microwave starts as soon as the door is closed, the microwave isn't really starting; the fan is coming on in anticipation of the unit starting. Try shutting the door firmly three times to avoid the fan sound in future use.

Good so far

This is as close in size and style to our previous microwave as we could find. It does have less stainless and more black than we would like, but it looks nice. It is surprisingly quite in operation. My only real complaint is that the plug is straight and not right-angle, which is a pretty big oversight for a counter-top microwave that is almost always going to be pushed up against a wall in front of the outlet where it is plugged in.

Tough buttons

We find it difficult to get the buttons we are pushing to respond. It takes a while for the oven to turn on in response to a button. We must feel around to get the "sweet spot" that makes the oven turn on. Once on the oven works great. ie. Controls need work. I would give this product a qualified recommendation to a friend.

Replacement microwave

Just purchased. Just too new to rate/review on its long term effectiveness. Was purchased as a replacement for one we purchased in 2003 that the turntable died today. Just can't rate it higher than average.

Best ever microwave!

We had a GE microwave before, and loved it. After 13 years, I made a mistake and blew it upI I wanted one as close as the one we had owned before, so decided to get another one. The one we had was no longer available, so in searching the ones I wanted, I chose this one as it was the closest one to the last one we had. I love the 'add 30-seconds' if needed button! It is very spacious, as the old one was. We have not had a problem with it, so I hope that it lasts as long as the other GE did! Haven't had it that long so haven't cooked a lot in it yet, but so far am very pleased with the purchase.
