I am very happy with this printer. I needed a printer to work in Windows7 running in Virtualbox in a Linux host. I've never gotten a laser printer to work in a virtual machine with a usb cable, and so wanted a wireless printer. But I started out trying the usb connection, and as soon as I plugged the cable into my desktop, Linux immediately recognized the printer. When I installed the printer in Windows the printer was also recognized, which was a first for me with a laser printer.
The wireless set up was difficult but that was my fault. I'd forgotten that I had MAC filtering on. I was trying to manually type in the security key to my router and was able to figure out how to use lower and upper case letters and symbols without having to read the manual. When I finally figured out the MAC filtering issue I connected using a WPS pin. It was very easy. Had I remembered the MAC filtering, it would have taken only a minute or two to set up the wireless.
Canon has a Linux driver for this machine. My built-in Linux driver was not working well on my laptop so I downloaded the Canon driver and now the laptop works well. The Canon driver is not working well on my desktop, but the built-in linux driver works there.
So now I'm successfully printing out of both Windows and Linux from the same desktop. I'm really happy with this printer.

Top of the line for a single function printer

I received this product in exchange for my unbiased opinion. I am familiar with Canon and have used the multi function printers/scanners/fax in the past, but this was my first experience with the single function printer. Overall, I am very happy with the device and quality. If you're looking for a simple printer that just prints, this would be top of the line.
Installation and setup was a breeze. There are instructions and a set up manual, but they don't offer much more than the basics. However, it was very simple to figure out and took just a few minutes. I probably spent more time opening the box and removing everything. They offer two ways to connect, either with a USB or wifi. I chose the wifi route and was up and running right away. My laptop connected seamlessly. The toner is already installed, so no worries about that.
The machine itself is compact enough to sit on a desk or table and it doesn't have the regular tray that most printers have, so there's nothing sticking out. You place the paper inside the machine and it comes out on top, which is rather convenient. No issues with jams or off set pages after a week of regular use.
This printer is fast!! I am used to a combination machine which I thought was rather quick, but this Canon beats that. The print quality is nice and dark and clear as well. No smudges or variation of black ink. This only prints in black, by the way. No color. The sound is definitely there, but not any louder than a regular printer. And again, it's quick, so the noise lasts a few seconds and it's done.
If you are needing a printer for a small office or a home based business, I would definitely recommend this Canon. It does exactly what it is supposed to do and does the job well. If you need extras like color or scanning, you will have you find another machine. But this was made for fast, efficient printing and it does a great job. It seems the toner is on the expensive side, but you won't need to change it out often, so I don't think you will lose too much in that regard.

Excellent Printer, Love it!

start off. I received this product in exchange for my unbiased opinion. I really needed a printer that was wireless and that printed good quality. The thing I liked the most about this printer is how fast it printed for the quality it puts out. I thought the setup process was simple and connecting from my laptop and smartphone was easy. The compact design saves room in my home office without sacfricing quality and speed. Screen is a little bit small but easy to read and navigate. Canon has always been top of the list for me when it comes to printers and this one especially is one of my favorites. I can`t really say I dislike anything about this printer. I`m just hoping the ink lasts longer than most other printers I have used in the past. Overall I think the design is great, compact, quality prints, and prints very quickly. I would definitely recommend this printer to anybody looking for a printer for home or office use.

Good B&W Starter Printer

Great printer for basic printing jobs. Instructions were easy to follow and assembly was not hard at all. Set up took less then 10 minutes.
Compact enough to fit in the corner of my desk so it doesn`t take up much space. One of my favorite features is the wireless capability. Being able to print on the fly from a computer or smart phone is a great option. This is a feature that my current printer does not offer.
Overall this printer is a pretty good starter printer. Great for printing out simple word documents. Not being able to print in color for me is a big disappointment as most of my prints require color. The price is kind of high as well for a B&W only printer. If the color option was added this would be a great all around addition to my office.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Super Easy, And Quiet!

I have to say, I am extremely impressed with this printer! It was EXTREMELY easy to set up and connect to WiFi! I have had wireless printers before that needed you to download their app, to connect to it, then follow numerous instructions before ever connecting the printer to your WiFi network. This one however, took me all of 2 minutes to plug in, follow a few simple instructions that were clearly spelled out in the manual, and that was it, it was connected and ready to print its first page! So next came the trial printing. I tried a contract form that I use that has multiple different fonts, at different sizes, and has a lot of information on all one page, and this printer grabbed its paper (from its large hidden paper compartment, which makes it look very sleek) and without even making much of a hum, out came the form within milliseconds.
Overall I have been pleased with this printer, and have had no issues with in part of it. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who would want a quick, quiet, easy to use, and great looking wireless printer!
