I got this to replace a fixed-speed fan to circulate air up a set of stairs to help keep the house from getting too stagnant. This fan is quieter at all speeds than the competitor it replaced, and the ‘infinite’ adjustability of angle helps keep air pointed up the stairs instead of into them. The only part I find disappointing is that there’s a power brick instead of having an integrated power supply. I definitely recommend it anyway.

We already own four other Vornado fans, the oldest one being over 30 years old and still running. We needed a fan to run when we have a power outage but are waiting to see if we need to start up the generator or not. Many such outages last 5 hours or less, but in summer in NC, that can be brutal. We have a couple of Ryobi invertors that take Ryobi tool batteries and convert the stored power to AC. This Smart Energy fan is so efficient that with a standard tool battery (4Ah), it will run on the highest setting (very powerful!) for 1.5hrs, and on the middle setting for almost 10 hours. Even on a half-size battery (1.5Ah), it will run almost 3 hours on the middle setting. Both are excellent runtimes and help bridge the power-out gap until we know for sure whether it is time to pull out the old portable generator. This fan is quiet, and even though it is not large, it sends a LOT of wind a long distance. Vornado fans are the best!

I love how quiet this fan is especially on the less than maximum settings. On the highest setting it is loud but I usually keep the control a the quarter to half way setting at night just to have air movement while sleeping. Being able to adjust the speeds without being limited to 3 or 4 speeds is great. I'm able to carry it as needed from my upstairs office/craft room to my first floor master bedroom. I hope to purchase another Tornado in the future so I no longer need to do this.
