The Radiant 300 lantern is absolutely the bomb. The white sleeve is a great addition for diffusion. While cooking we used it on the medium setting and while hanging around the picnic table or campfire we had it on the low setting, which was nice for ambiance. Run time was superb. I wish the on/off button had a locking feature because while packed in a bag stuffed with gear the button got depressed it got turned on by itself. I didn't use it to the full capability - never got to use the USB port to recharge another device but it's a nice option. It's also excellent that the charging port for most Nite Ize lighting devices uses the same type of cable - simple.

The perfect lantern!!

I've been searching for an updated, modern lantern for a long time... now that search has come to an end! This lantern is compact, durable, and includes a red light mode, which seems to be rare for some reason. This is especially important for me so I don't blind myself or my campmates around the picnic table or inside my tent - a pet peeve of mine. As a bonus to me, it even has a USB port so I can charge my phone! Some other awesome features include a carabiner integrated into the handle and a handy carrying case which doubles as a light diffuser. All things considered, this lantern is my perfect, go-to choice when it comes to my campsite lighting needs. Lastly, it's important to note that as a member of the Nite Ize Field Team, I received this product in exchange for my honest feedback and review of its performance. All opinions and words are my own.

Absolutely love this lantern! I'm not an ultra-light hiker/gearhead by any means, but I do try to watch the weight of the gear I bring into the backcountry. Before, I'd never even consider bringing a lantern on an overnight camping trip. The weight of the heavy D batteries alone are enough of a deterrent to just stick to a headlamp for my illumination needs. With the rechargeable Radiant 300 Lantern (which I swear weighs less than a single D battery) I don't feel guilty bringing this lantern along on every trip. Super bright, multiple settings including red light to preserve night vision, strobe function for those impromptu backcountry dance parties, long battery life, USB port to charge other electronics(camera batteries). I love this lantern!

Missing feature

Great but missing a key feature: you cannot lock the on /off power button to prevent accidentally turning the light on when packed with your gear.
We just came back from a 9 day canoeing/camping trip and only had a working lantern for the first night, after which it had drained of power. I assume that while compressing our dry bag/knapsack (critical before lots of portaging), we turned it on by accident. It was okay, since we were quite far north and it didn't really get dark until after 9:00 pm, but it would have been nice to have, since we carried it so far!
Otherwise I like it.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Let there be light! Dont be fooled by the size of this compact lantern, it's powerful especially on the top setting yet still a nice softened glow/mood to it, especially when using the sleeve. Lightweight, smart design and easy recharge - Awesome!

Great product but missing a key feature that you cannot lock the on /off power button to prevent accidentally turning the light on when packed with your gear. Good head lamps have this feature with is very important when camping.

What happens to my other lamps I won't use anymore?

I bought this on a whim, now don't know why I ever doubted it. Works great in every "area lighting" task I used it. Fully illuminates the area for changing tires, rolling out the sleeping bags, walking to the neighbors camp fire. I can't confirm how long the battery lasts, because I just plug into the outlet in my truck in the morning and its recharged while I'm driving. The ability to use it to recharge my phone is a neat trick. I checked that out and the phone confirmed the charge cycle. This will become tree-house lighting for sure.

The best lantern I have ever owned

I use it all the time in my bedroom at night while reading. I don't have a light in my closet but I do now. It's so light weight and so convenient. I love being able to charge my phone when the power goes out, which happens too often. I just want to say buy this lantern and you will love it too!
