I like it but...

I've had this sound bar for quite some time now the only issue is the connectivity to the satellite speakers. I have them plugged into a couple samsung USB chargers and plugged into some smart plugs so I can just tell Alexa to turn the power on and off. Many times if I cycle the power the will turn on and connect to the main unit but other times the won't so I have to push the connect button but other than that they have a very high quality sound.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Awesome concept & quality - lacks midrange

I'm not sure why more companies don't offer this type of product - in fact: JBL appears to be the last on the market to do so. The benefit of detachable wireless speakers is that you don't have to run wires and permanently install satellite speakers. We only use surround sound for movies, high-end TV shows or some sporting events. There's really no other reason for permanent 5.1.
We had a Philips Fidelio Sound Bar with detachable satellite speakers, but after 3 years, it is glitching, requiring restarts during viewing. I decided to give this product a shot. It was incredibly easy to install and for a smaller room, it would have been perfect. Unfortunately for us, it just didn't have the mid range (dialogue, etc) "oompf" that our current sound bar has. Even with calibration and tuning, we couldn't get the same level of sound we were used to.
All that said - it's still a great concept and product, and for the right size room, it would work great.
I would recommend this to a friend!

detachable speakers

We're sorry to hear about what happened. Here are some troubleshooting steps for us to check your JBL Bar 5.1:

1. Please make sure that the speakers are fully charged or is connected via USB to a power source to ensure that it has power when you're using it.

2. Info about the detachable speakers of our JBL Bar 5.1

- The wireless surround speakers automatically enter standby for
a total of 10 minutes if one presses POWER OFF on the remote
control or the soundbar top-panel buttons.

- The wireless surround speakers automatically switch to standby
after 10 minutes of button inactivity and no audio/video play from
a connected device.

- The wireless surround speakers automatically power off after
20 minutes of button inactivity and no audio/video play from a
connected device.

To re-connect the wireless surround speakers to the soundbar,
first, confirm the main soundbar is POWER ON, then press the
RECONNECT button on the wireless surround speaker.

You can also reset the soundbar if this can help fix the problem:
Reset this soundbar to the default settings programmed at
the factory.
- In any source mode, press and hold VOLUME -, VOLUME+
and Source button on soundbar top panel until text
display shows Reset.
- When the factory settings restore is complete, the product
automatically switches off and restarts.

Doesn't work

Returned two purchases because they were faulty. One of them didn't connect to subwoofer and the other one connected but had no sound.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Garbage for now

It worked great for about 5 days and it started just turning off the sound about every 5 mins then turn the power off then back on it would work fine for about 20 mins and get worse to about 5 mins then it would fine for a day or two and repeat i have had it less then a month it sounds good but wow boys whats is going on?

We're sorry to hear about what happened. Here are some steps for us to check your JBL Bar 5.1:

1. Try using a different source ex. (phone, tablet) and connect via Bluetooth for us to check if the sound of the soundbar would still be the same.
2. Try watching or playing music from different sources ex. (Netflix, YouTube, cable box).
3. Try using a different HDMI cable.
4. Try connecting the soundbar to a different TV to check the audio.
5. Please make sure that the audio settings of your TV is set to PCM or Bitstream is selected. Do not set it to Auto as this could affect the audio processing of the TV to the soundbar. Either way, both PCM and Bitstream are compatible with our soundbar.
6. Try plugging into a different power outlet.

You can also rest the soundbar:

In any source mode, press and hold volume -, volume+
and SOURCE button on soundbar top panel until text display shows reset. When the factory settings restore is complete, the product automatically switches off and restarts.

Inconsistent Connection

So I purchased my soundbar about a month ago. I set it up to my Samsung tv and tested it out, seemed to work great. The sound quality was fantastic and I was so excited to start enjoying movies and music with it. I calibrated the sound then set up Bluetooth with my phone to stream music through he speakers, it worked flawlessly and I was SO happy to have some amazing speakers to play music from on top of elevating my movie watching experience.
Then the issues began. The Satellite speakers would have a poor connection and sound crackly from time to time. I was never able to connect my phone to the speaker a second time, I spent probably 3 hours over the course of days troubleshooting this specific issue to no avail. I would watch tv and no audio would play, I would have to unplug either the optic or HDMI arc cable then restart everything to get sound to play. The unit turned into a headache that was not worth the trouble.
Eventually, no matter what I would do, I couldn't get sound to play. I swapped HDMI arc cables, optic cables, reset Bluetooth connections, etc. I went through all the troubleshooting I could think of but the speaker would only work sometimes. It was like it had a mind of its own. No matter what I did, it made no difference.
Anyways, I returned for a refund but I wouldn't recommend this. I know a lot of people had great results with their units, unfortunately, I wasn't one of them.
I've used jbl products for years and swear by them so it was extremely dissapointing to me how far off the mark this product was. I think the concept is amazing but I feel like they did not get the wireless functionality right. When it worked, it sounded great but I'm not going to spend 15 minutes troubleshooting everytime I want to watch a movie. Also, not being able to use Bluetooth from my phone was a huge issue that I never could resolve.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

It showed up broken

It didn't work when I got it. It would turn off every minute or so even when sound was playing, regardless of what input I had it on. I read that there is a power saving setting that turns it off when there is low input. The problem was that it turned off constantly and the microphone for calibrating also didn't work. It said it couldn't detect a microphone at all. I returned it and I am currently awaiting the replacement. If it works as advertised I will be happy.
