Bought this a few weeks ago for my husband. He is so happy with it. The sound is superb! Its loud, clear and the sub has a great bass to it. Being able to move the speakers for the ultimate surround sound experience is pretty cool.

Nice soundbar but...

I want to like this soundbar but for some reason the volume occasionally cuts out when you change channels or switch between streaming and a cable box. This problem always remedied by changing the sound mode.
Response from jbl.comBy Customer SupportFebruary 5, 2024
Thanks for your feedback. The occasional cut-out you may experience with your JBL Bar 5.1 is normal. The soundbar is detecting and adjusting to the audio format of the source devices you're switching to, ensuring optimal performance. If you have any further concerns, feel free to reach out to our Customer Support.

Horrible

Absolute garbage. I could not get the surround sound speakers to charge via usb cable so it had to be exchanged. The second unit had constant issues with the surround sound speakers not even connecting. Now, I cannot get the unit to work with my TV more than half the time. I tried using the bluetooth to stream music but that also would disconnect randomly. Additionally, I cannot get the remote to work. Luckily I have a Harmony remote that works some of the time. I have performed multiple factory resets but that is hit or miss for temporarily fixing the issues. I will never purchase a JBL soundbar again.

We hear you. We're here to help with your JBL Bar 5.1. It could be possible that the batteries on your surround speakers may be losing capacity which could be the reason why it would not hold a charge. Interference with other wireless signals can also cause the connection with the surround speakers to be intermittent. To avoid this, please ensure that there is a clear line of sight with the soundbar and surround speakers and turn off unused wireless devices. Please check that when you are connected to your TV, you are using HDMI ARC and enable the CEC function to control the remote of your TV with the soundbar. If you need further assistance with your soundbar, we'd like to work with you directly to address these. Please contact us for us to try some troubleshooting steps.

Subwoofer has started to become erratic
on October 3, 2024

I bought this soundbar around the middle of 2019 but early this year I noticed that the subwoofer has started to have erratic behavior of not producing any sound and then coming back on. It is kind of hard to notice when the subwoofer is not working because one has to put your ear right beside it and feel the box for vibration. And that is how I occasionally confirmed it to be not producing any sound. I have only occasionally and gently used it (ie, not turning on too loud and not leaving the soundbar on for extended periods of time) but still it stopped working. I am sad that I might have to stop using the whole soundbar because I am afraid that it might suddenly stop working while I am entertaining and showing it off to guests. I love the sound produced by the soundbar when I first bought it but am just starting to wonder about the reliability of the product.

We're here to help with your JBL Bar 5.1. It would be possible that the wireless subwoofer and the soundbar connection is being interrupted. By default, once the unit is turned on the subwoofer and soudbar is automatically connected. We also recommend checking the light indicator on the back of the subwoofer, the light should be solid white to ensure that the subwoofer is connected. If no audio from the wireless subwoofer can be heard, manually pair the subwoofer. Press the Connect button on the subwoofer to have it enter on pairing mode. Then, with your soundbar remote control, press and hold the Dim Display button for five seconds followed by a short press of the Bass + and Bass - button. The display on the soundbar will show pairing. If pairing is successful, the LED indicator on the subwoofer will light up and the soundbar display will show Done.
