My wireless subwoofers are making lots of crackling noises when no audio is coming which is unbearable. Regardless if it's connected, if the source is opt or hdmi, the crackling is there. The only way to make it go way is to reduce the volume to the lowest level. That's a shame.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. We understand that our JBL Bar 5.1 didn't meet your expectations. Since the subwoofer is wireless, it susceptible to interference. To isolate this issue, you could try to relocate your subwoofer or make sure that there are no wireless devices within 5 meters. If it's connected to a power strip, you could also try to plug it directly to a wall outlet to see if that fixes the noise issue.
I have a Bose soundbar with subwoofer for almost 3 times the price. While I am completely satisfied with my system my friend didn't want to spend that much money. After some research I recommended this setup and I'm thoroughly impressed. The unit is nice looking, has a slick wall mount system included and the detachable speakers are versatile. The sound is not "tinny" at all and this is in a huge family room (18x26 with 16' ceiling) and hardwood floor with no rug. Outstanding base response. With proper setup - setting the speakers in the position you're going to have them in and doing the calibration - I think you'll be quite pleased.
First time purchase of the JBL 5.1 surround and very happy with the purchase over my previous Bose sound system. The JBL 5.1 surround system literally brought every movie to lifelike sound experience. My wife and I enjoy the sounds and details it creates with the detachable rear surround speakes when we watch shows or movies. I have no cons about my purchase, it is just that good! I don't understand other reviewers complaining about this system and about not getting any or minimal sound from the rear speakers. They are either lying to make JBL look bad or just lazy and don't take the time to get to know the sound system. I would recommend to those who are not satisfied with this system, go back to step 1 and restart your hookup and follow instructions, there is also Youtube. Falsifying about this sound system of no sound, giving bad reviews because you have no idea how to hook it up or just because you are an ungrateful human being gives the team at JBL no direction to focus and update REAL issues to better future products. JBL cares about there (customers) because there engineers, the team and product delivers.
I am very happy with my purchase. I am no audiophile but they system sounds great especially watching movies. The 5.1 system with the wireless surround speakers make such a huge difference. Oh and the subwoofer is incredible with deep deep house shaking base. Set up and calibration was a snap and the remote has all the controls I need to adjust my listening pleasure. For the price, this is a terrific value. Now I have to go because I want to listen and watch another movie.
