Playing this thing with my music has been a blast literally, I love how you can detach the sides for more surround sound, it's a purchase I'm truly glad I made
sometime they work sometimes not and now and then one will only work
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

We're sorry to hear about what happened. Here are some troubleshooting steps for us to check your JBL Bar 5.1:
1. Please make sure that the speakers are fully charged or is connected via USB to a power source to ensure that it has power when you're using it.
2. Info about the detachable speakers of our JBL Bar 5.1
- The wireless surround speakers automatically enter standby for a total of 10 minutes if one presses POWER OFF on the remote control or the soundbar top-panel buttons.
- The wireless surround speakers automatically switch to standby after 10 minutes of button inactivity and no audio/video play from a connected device.
- The wireless surround speakers automatically power off after 20 minutes of button inactivity and no audio/video play from a connected device.
To re-connect the wireless surround speakers to the soundbar, first, confirm the main soundbar is POWER ON, then press the RECONNECT button on the wireless surround speaker.
You can also reset the soundbar if this can help fix the problem: Reset this soundbar to the default settings programmed at the factory. - In any source mode, press and hold VOLUME -, VOLUME+ and Source button on soundbar top panel until text display shows Reset. - When the factory settings restore is complete, the product automatically switches off and restarts.

I'm not sure why more companies don't offer this type of product - in fact: JBL appears to be the last on the market to do so. The benefit of detachable wireless speakers is that you don't have to run wires and permanently install satellite speakers. We only use surround sound for movies, high-end TV shows or some sporting events. There's really no other reason for permanent 5.1.
We had a Philips Fidelio Sound Bar with detachable satellite speakers, but after 3 years, it is glitching, requiring restarts during viewing. I decided to give this product a shot. It was incredibly easy to install and for a smaller room, it would have been perfect. Unfortunately for us, it just didn't have the mid range (dialogue, etc) "oompf" that our current sound bar has. Even with calibration and tuning, we couldn't get the same level of sound we were used to.
All that said - it's still a great concept and product, and for the right size room, it would work great.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. We are sorry to hear that you're not satisfied with the mid-range of our JBL Bar 5.1. We're always looking for ways to improve. We'll make sure to submit your feedback to the right department.
Bought the 5.1 soundbar with detachable speakers. Very happy with it's performance. It's soundshift feature works well when you're streaming music from an Amazon Echo device connected via bluetooth. Switches back to the TV when you stop streaming. The bass is tremendous.
It’s a great surround system. Packing was a bit weak for delivery. Box was damaged but everything was working. Just need a charger cord that can be plugged into the rears when no connected to sound bar
I have tinnitus and hearing loss from the Army and needed hear voices more clear while watching TV. This fit the bill, I can hear TV once again. My only gripe (which is not huge) it seemed a little tough getting the fiber optic cable to plug in (could be a me thing). Thanks JBL..
I have always had a surround sound 5.1 - 9.1 over the years. I just moved and downsized everything.. And with this llig in and play surround sound you don't need a receiver. The TV's are equipped to pit out quality sound.. I use HDMI (included) cord and have this on my boat. Use the mini included microphone to get the sound dialed into your room and where you sit. Its simple to do, just follow a couple steps included in instructions.
The base hase a Good deep sound, so good you don't need to up the base level to het a quality thumping base that makes movies awesome.
If you have the extra cash, go for the 9.1 sound bar, about twice the cost but over 800 watts.. Me personally, over 500 wats was more than enough.
When it's movie time, I remove the 2 rear speakers from the sound bar and place behind me for that true surround sound. AWESOME! I recommend the 5.1 sound bar!
