I bought the carbon and have been using it for a week. It's an amazing laptop with a top-notch screen.
I was looking for a dependable, light, portable laptop with a very strong battery with enough charge so I could work all day without power interruption. After three days of use, my computer was lasting 3.5 hours on a charge, even after turning off Bluetooth and lowering the screen brightness. It was recommended that I return the computer for a new one which is what I have just done. Hope the new one will perform with a strong battery life when its received in a few weeks. If the new laptop performs with a strong battery, it will be a great product. Otherwise, it will be a great disappointment.

I buy these machines because of Lenovo's great track record with Linux support. However there are some issues with suspend to ram support on this machine (Si03) which I wish Lenovo would address with a BIOS update. Otherwise it's pretty solid so far (1 month). I would give it a 5 if Lenovo would update the BIOS suspend support for s3. Perhaps the Linux community will resolve this issue themselves by adding Si03 support to the kernel in the future.

Excellent laptop, thin, light and excellent feature set. Overall it's well thought out with features not found on most like indicator lights on the keys and function lock customizeable for old codgers like myself who prefer F keys as default. Keyboard has a great tactile feel and the backlight is a bonus. Only downside is the memory is soldered to the board and not upgradeable after purchase without specialized equipment.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Excellent product for the price. The FHD screen, keyboard and overall build quality are great. Few picky notes after 2 months of use:
1/ thunderbolt ports are flimsy, cable moves to all sides, but it does not affect connection
2/ you would not believe how difficult it is to remove fingerprints from the surface, even with alcohol solution
3/ no Linux drivers for fingerprint scanner
4/ some thermal throttling under load, as expected from i5-8250 in a thin chassis
5/ RAM ddr3 in the era of ddr4
6/ micro-sd only, you need a pin or a needle to open the slot

Great laptop, Linux suspend hard to get working

I've had Thinkpads for almost 20 years now, upgrading most recently from an X220. The X1 Carbon 6th Gen is much lighter and better than my previous laptop, and everything now works great. However, it took me basically 2 months to get suspend working under Linux following instructions on the Internet (partly because I'm busy, partly because it's kind of hard). I understand that Lenovo is working on this issue and I hope that it will be resolved soon.
I do want to emphasize the weight. My core overnight travel kit used to weigh under 4kg with the X220. It's much less now with the X1, though I haven't weighed it yes. Really good for this use case.

My only beef is after purchasing the laptop, I'm now getting an unbelievable amount of SPAM. Literally daily "deals" and sales. I've unsubscribed twice already and am still getting it. That said...I'm happy with my X1C6 carbon. Bought the highest level build and so far so good. Looks slick and light weight.

I bought the X1 Carbon in the middle of May, after becoming frustrated with the limited used I was able to get from my 2017 MacBook Pro TouchBar model. I decided to get the upgraded screen (WELL worth it) and also the expanded memory to 16GB. The keyboard is simply fantastic to use and is a significant improvement over my previous MacBook Pro that I was using with its keys.
Installing Ubuntu was as simple as could be, only requiring a bootable USB disk. I had no problem having any of the features work for me right away, although I have heard problems from people before saying that they have trouble with the onboard camera or the fingerprint reader. I don't use the fingerprint sensor, so I have not bothered to look into if it is working or not, but I believe that this can be fixed if there is a problem.
If you are considering buying a machine for software development, look no further as this really is the ultimate machine to use. The only downsides are that the onboard speakers leave a little to be desired in terms of sound quality (they are laptop speakers, however) and that the matte black finish likes fingerprints!
I would recommend this to a friend!
