First - I'm very short. The chair adjusts for height by inflating the ball. I achieved a perfect fit allowing my feet to be flat on the floor. Second, the cushioning of the ball plus the fact I can now sit properly prevents me from sitting back on my lower spine, has eased my back pain.

Excellent Chair but One Major Problem

This is an excellent chair for keeping the spine and core muscles in good health. I had to get this since I sit all day long at my computer and this really helps my back and posture. However, a major problem is the off-gassing of the PVC ball. I'm surprised no one else has mentioned this in the reviews. The smell was overwhelming to me. I set it outside for a day or two and I also have really great air purifier that kept near it for days and it still smells really bad. PVC does off-gas and most likely has phthalates, highly toxic chemicals. A big hunk of vinyl is not something you want to be sitting on all day, especially if you're pregnant. But there is a solution. I wrapped the ball in a BabeSafe mattress cover which blocks the off-gassing. I don't sell these, just want to be clear on that. Google it and you'll find online stores that sell them - about $30. It's a thick sheet of polyethylene plastic and you can also find this at hardware store but make sure it's really pure polyethylene and not another type of plastic. I don't fault Gaiam - I'm a big fan of Gaiam. These stability balls are not made any other way, as far as I know. I have other stability balls that I use for exercise that I haven't wrapped since I'm on those for short periods of time. But I wrapped the ball in this chair since I'm on it all day. Now that it's wrapped, there's no smell. I highly recommend this chair, it's really a great chair, but think people should know about the off-gassing.
Instantly liked the comfort, no more leg and back paint after sitting at my desk, whether it is for a few minutes or all day. Very simple to put together and light weight. Takes a few days to get the air pressure where you want, but very easy to do. Now trying to get my employer to provide me one at work.
I started by just sitting on a physio ball and it was great, but didn't have much mobility or stability. We had purchased our first ball chair a few years back for an employee with a back problem and she loved it so we just purchased 2 more. using this chair, eliminated a lot of the stiffness I was experiencing in a traditional office chair. I highly recommend this chair for anyone who sits at work for long periods of time.

After looking at these off and on for the last couple of years, I finally treated myself to one last month. I am approximately six feet tall and knew the top end for these was five feet eleven, but wasn't too concerned. I knew I had a slightly larger ball tucked away in a box under my desk that I could use as a backup if needed. When I first set this up in my office, I thought the ball was too small for me to sit comfortably at my desk. I felt that I was having to reach up for the keyboard and strain to look up at my monitor. So I swapped it out with the slightly larger ball I had and everything was good - for the first few days that is. After sitting properly for a week, I found myself reaching down for my keyboard and looking down at my monitor. The chair had accomplished what it was suppose to and greatly improved my posture. I swapped back to the 52cm Gaiam ball, and everything is perfect now. The Gaiam ball is of much better quality and provides greater support than the larger, cheaper ball I tried replacing it with. For anyone who has tried one of these in the past and found it uncomfortable, give it a little more time. It takes a while for your posture to improve enough that your can sit comfortably at one of these for an extended period of time. This was an excellent purchase and one I wish I had made sooner.

I've been curious about this chair for a few years and am so glad I took the plunge and purchased it. It is very simple to assemble. It is extremely comfortable and allows your body to sit in a natural way. Everyone in my office thought it looked strange but once they sat on it they were sold on it too! I'd buy a second one for home if I could stop my kids from playing with the balance ball!
Wonderful for my back, can sit on it all day with no back pain and posture is great. No more slumping at the desk. Very comfortable. Liked so much, bought more and plan on buying another in near future.
