Great idea, but poor construction.

We use our chairs 9-10 hours a day 5 days a week in our busy dental practice. We have had our back pain decreased. However, we have had several rods break. We have had them replaced and those broke as well.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Becoming very disappointed with customer care

I have had several of these chairs over many years and have always had issues with the metal band that is across the chair. I have broken several and have had to purchase a few and have had a few replaced kindly by customer care. My most recent replacement in December 2017 came with a new adapter/ reinforcement that seemed to be a good addition and would stop the breaking of this part. I put the new part and the adapters on and within 6 months it has ruined my chair. After contacting customer care they tried to tell me it was my fault, accused me of an under inflated ball (not the case) have refused to do anything for me. This is a weak link in the design of this chair, all of us users know that. The problem is with the new adapters, that ultimately ruined the chair. Looking for a better replacement now!
Pros: attractive, light, makes me feel good
Cons: broken metal bands, over and over

I replaced this chair with my unfomfortable one and so glad I did. Initially, the seat looks lower than the replaced chair, but it is actually a little taller. It only took a few minutes to put together. The pump worked much better than I expected. One pleasant surprise was the small amount of space it occupied. My back is not killing me at the end of the day. I was hesitant about leaning back, but there is total support. I haven't tried the exercises yet, but looking forward to keeping my body active while I am stuck at a desk.

Not only do I love my ball chair and don't know how to sit in anything else at work, when the bar broke I called customer service and within a day they had shipped me a replacement part free of charge. Fantastic!!

I purchased a Classic Balance Ball Chair & absolutely loved it. It was so comfortable & easy to reposition with wheels that could be locked when desired. As I was getting close to 2 years of use, the ball started leaking air. No stranger to air leaks, I tried all of the troubleshooting techniques I knew, but no success. I ordered a replacement ball that failed quickly. I went through a total of 3 replacement balls, and none of them held air more than a couple of weeks. It was so hard to let go of this chair, because while it worked, it was the absolute best chair I've ever used. I've given 3 stars because Gaiam's customer service was excellent, both in terms of sending me replacement balls & then in refunding my money. I think my experience may indicate that you can try replacement balls if you need to & have a good chance of getting a refund if they don't work. (I'm stuck with this 3-year-old chair frame that I can no longer use, however, and that's not recyclable in my location.) I then purchased a 65cm ball & fabric cover which I use without a chair frame. It's a good option for me, but the ball chair was the best while it lasted.

I bought and assembled this on a Friday and by Monday there was a leak coming from the excercise ball, making it impossible to sit in as the air was escaping at the seam of the ball. It was awesome for the three days it lasted!

I love the chair after I got it blown up and broken in but the wheels tend to stick and or lock. If they could just come up with smooth rollers for this chair I could sell them to everyone that walks in to my office. My back usually hurts by the end of the week and sooner with too much stress but sitting on this ball has stopped all that so I do put up with the non smooth rolling.
