I bought this radio for use on the trail and initial impressions are very good. One of my favorite features is the small size; it allows you to mount the radio just about anywhere. I also like the ease of setting up repeaters. We have several GMRS repeaters here in Tucson and I've been able to hit them all. I haven't tested the limits but I've regularly been hitting a repeater 15 miles away. I have it paired with Midlands 6db antenna and mag NMO mount which seems to work well. The SWR on it showed 1.04 without any extra tuning or fiddling. The menu interface is hard to follow since all menu options are abbreviated to 2 letters. I find that I don't go into the menu enough to have them memorized so I keep the manual handy. Another con is the mount for the microphone does not come with screws, only adhesive. I found my microphone on the floor of my truck after one day in the Arizona sun. I quickly remedied the problem with a self tapping screw. I also would have preferred a channel knob on the unit itself instead of buttons on the microphone. Aside from those few minor items the radio is great!

Have had the radio's for a few weeks, had trouble programing the units , no repeater rp would come up, could enter tone and other features but would not go to rp no matter what I did , called for tech but folks I got where very nice but couldn't answer the questions. I went to youtube , and found that the repeater function had to be turned on first, once I did that 3 min all programed and fully operational, need to let folks know that this must be done before they do anything else, over all the radio is great, well constructed and audio TX is great and RX is also very good

Semi happy with the radio. Range is no where as advertised. I’m aware of the small print it states with optimal conditions. Realistically I get about 3 miles range in suburban conditions. Would like to see more true advertising.

No speaker in the handset...??!?!?!

The only speaker on the unit is on the underside of the main unit. And since you would normally mount this under the dash or on the side of the center console it is very hard to hear. The handset looks like it should have a speaker, and feels like it does, but there are only metal weights, and foam covering the grill that would normally hold a speaker.
After taking it apart, all the wiring is there, and it wouldn't cost much at all to have added the speaker, but for some reason they chose not to. Considering the mxt is the same price point, AND has more controls stuffed into the handset, and they somehow figured out how to have a speaker as well.
If you are looking at this one, i advice going with the mxt275, unless you don't want to hear it very clearly.
Everything works well...but in a Jeep on the trails it can be VERY hard to hear. And if one plugs an external speaker into it, that output is also very quiet and requires a powered speaker that you can adjust the volume on.
I thought i'd already written this review, but could not find it on the page? So here it is again.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
