My boyfriend bought this chair for me for Christmas and it has helped me sit more appropriately to help avoid back and hip pain later in the day. I love it and would recommend it to anyone!
I have had my eye on one of these chairs for a long time, so when my home office chair finally wore out, I got one. The ball that comes with it was too short, even when (per Gaiam's repeated advice here) I made sure it was completely inflated. I happened to have a larger-diameter balance ball laying around, and it fits in the chair. That solved the height issue. The casters are really cheap and rough, but I believe that with a minute or two at the hardware store, I can replace them. As a base, the molded plastic is just right. Too bad they don't sell different ball sizes to go in it, or just sell the ball separately so you can judge which one you need. I like the balance ball chair concept, though, and if you are thinking about it, give it a shot. Be creative, though- you may need to tweak some things about it.
Thought this chair was made to be able to sit at your desk and work... well, if you are 6' or taller... it might work. When I sat on it and pulled it up to my desk, I was chin high. My boss, who is 5'10 is arm pit high. Won't work to use this model as a desk chair replacement, and that's what I bought it for. If the chair portion under the ball was adjustable for people of varying heights...it might work great.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

The chair seems very fun, but following the directions for proper positioning... not so much. The specs recommend that your knees be level with your hips, deflating/inflating the ball will achieve that. I'm 5'6'' - perhaps in the initial inflation I was bit over-enthusiastic (inflating to the full 52cm capacity), but I felt that by the time I deflated to an even knee-hip level there was practically nothing to the ball and I was sitting way too low to the ground to be comfortable at my desk. I also have tailbone issues and this caused just too much pressure in the area. Unfortunately this chair is not for me.
I bought this recently for my daughter who has had spine surgery. She loves it! It has really taken a lot of stress off of her back.

I wasn't sure if I could sit in this chair all day at a normal office job. I also didn't realize you aren't suppoe to use the backrest. I was pleasantly suprised, I have no problems, I'm completely comfy all day and the chair reminds me to get up and walk around once in awhile! Love it!
