Model BCSD142SS - Terrible Light Placement

Since this is a special order unit and not carried in any retail store or home improvement warehouse in stock, the packaging pf this unit needs to be stronger for shipping purposes, more reinforcement and heavier duty cardboard and inside packing material. One of the filters was received warped and bent, had to straighten to make it fit in the area.
The placement/location of the two lights is ridiculous which are in the very front of the unit (and in my situation) they shed the light outside of the cooking area!!! not directly were they're supposed to. Installing the recommended halogen 50WATT MR16 (LED lights are not recommended by Broan) with the GU10 base - which must be purchased at an additional cost - even with the included suction cup supplied by Broan is an exercise in acrobatic contortion!!! An insane design. The Halogen bulbs are very HOT even as soon as they turn on!. These bulbs are not included with the unit and are not readily available in stores in California, have to be ordered online.
Also another con is that the damper for 7" vertical installation needs to be purchased and is not included with the unit, although damper for 3 1/4" X 10" size is included.
On the plus side - the fan is quiet and does a great job of exhausting smoke and odors from the cooking area even on a low setting.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

filters were too small

filters fall down and Boan does not the right size filters. I must tape or glue them on

When it was first installed, it worked great and then, after a few weeks, it stopped taking all the smoke out of the house. I haven't vented outside with the recommended damper. I have checked to make sure nothing is clogged, and it still blows smoke around my kitchen while only removing a little bit. I would not recommend this. It is a lousy Set up. And to top it all off you can't even replace the grease filters anymore.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Great Product

Bought this unit to replace my old 42" model. Overall it is a great product, BUT I believe the supplied literature should not only provide installation instructions but include specific instructions on care. I have yet to figure out how to remove the filter for cleaning. The unit has a little tab that looks very flimsy and I'm afraid to apply too much pressure during the removal process. I've searched for videos and literature but have been unsuccessful. I'd appreciate help on this subject.

Using the tab, remove the grease filters from the hood by pushing down and tilting filters out. Recently purchased Broan Glacier 42indh convertible white. For a short time I needed to use it with charcoal filters. There isn't any charcoal filters anywhere for this fan. There isn't any on the Broan site. Thought,when I need the regular filters they will probably be discontinued as well.I wasted enough time on filters already so I got rid of that hood fast. After reading the reviews I am glad I did.
