Very thin gauge metal; had a tiny dent upon arrival. Upon installation, my remodeling contractor discovered the fan worked but the light did not. I called Broan and they gave me the names of a couple local authorized repair people. My contractor overheard my conversation. When I got off the phone, my contractor said, "Lots of luck getting that person to respond. Our company has been waiting for him for weeks." There is limited info that ships with the hood; there was no diagram/instructions that explained how the LED light modules fit into the hood -- from the back/front, etc. Frustrated, I called back to Broan. The service rep with whom I spoke was very helpful and was able to answer my question regarding the LED installation. Armed with that info, the contractor and I got the LED out and we discover the wire was off. It's merely friction fit with no securing latch or tape. It's really tight quarters trying to get at it and we didn't want to completely remove the whole unit from the cabinets -- poor access design. To see properly, we had to hold the phone camera inside and take a photo to see where the wire was. Got it connected and all was then OK. Apparently, the jarring that slightly dented the metal of the hood itself also knocked the wire loose from the LED. Poor design of access, and poor protective packaging inside the box. After a couple of weeks of use, the fan developed a "chirping" sound as it ran. In hindsight, I would look for a different hood; problem is, it's difficult to find the perfect size for my 40 year old cabinets. We have solid oak cabinets which we really like and during the remodel we didn't want the cabinets themselves replaced.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

The range hood is exactly what I needed, quiet and bright LED lights. It is designed to fit a number of different configurations. That said, if you're not an experienced do-it-yourselfer, seek assistance when installing this. The actual install is easy, but they leave a lot out of the manual and assume your application is one of the three common vent/power configurations. Little hints like 'bend the flaps on part A with a screwdriver' or 'use of this part is optional' would go a long way in making the install easier to understand.

Good Range Hood

We had this installed to replace one that died after many years. Does a good exhausting smoke and odors. The LED light is great.
