If you are a high and heavy user of ink - which I am, you would be foolish to use a cartridge based printer. I am thrilled with the quality but more than that I am glad to not spend all my hard earned cash at the office supply store for cartridges. I love this printer!!

A Dream Come True!

I've been using ancient Canon printers for the last decade (example: ip4500, Pro9000mkII). Canon manufactured printheads are no longer available so my perfectly good dinosaurs became unusable. I decided after many months of frustration to try the G1200. I'm very happy with it for 3 reasons: 1) the amount of ink in the tanks, 2) the blacks and grays are closer to a "neutral" charcoal black than any of my previous printers, and 3) the paper chugs down the hopper evenly on double-sided printing so that the images are exactly centered.

I bought this as an investment because of the always rising cost of ink cartridges. Positives: so far it's been really great, after a month of near daily use I can only tell that the color levels have gone down a bit. I've had no issues with paper jamming, or miscellaneous errors. Negatives: The Print Garden software is easy to use, but EXTREMELY slow and freezes occasionally. The box this was shipped in was just the product box, and it was damaged to the point I spoke to customer service on if I should return it before setting up, but the product inside was undamaged due to solid packing.

Strongly caution against

This printer is garbage.
I have not used this printer for much more than one year, but I will either need to buy a new printer or send mine away for service. The issue being is that the spent ink pads are designed to be filled up and then needing replacement. The service can only be performed by an authorized dealer because they are the only ones with the ability to unlock the freeze the printer goes into when it detects the spent ink pads become saturated. Save yourself some grief and buy another printer...
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Couldn't wait to inbox and set up my new Canon Pixma G1200 Printer. I was sent this printer for free to review and the set up was a breeze...I was pleasantly surprised to see the how much ink the tanks could hold. The ink bottles were huge! This particular model is not wireless and must be connected by a USB cord to a PC. The quality of prints are superior to any printer I have ever owned. I even printed off a few photos and I was totally impressed. I don't have to refrain from printing anything trying to conserve ink anymore. The reservoir windows are located right on the front for viewing. No more running out of ink mid print project and just think of all the money you save! I've had the machine for two weeks now and have been using it daily, the ink levels haven't even budged. Canon really had the consumer in mind with this product, Thanks! I would totally recommend this product to anyone in need of a home printer.

This started out good and I loved the ink tanks. Too bad the print head on the first one went out in under a year, but thankfully that meant it was under warranty. In less than six months on the new one I have had to perform a few cleanings and at least one deep clean. One was today after printing just twice after I already did a cleaning. It does not look good for this printer making it a year and for the price it just isn't worth it unless I get 2 or more years out of 1.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I received the Canon Pixma in return for writing a review. Upon receiving the box first noticed its very light weight. You will need to either purchase or already have on hand a USB cable. Since we had one from a previous printer we were able to use that. Set up was pretty easy. The only issue we had was putting the ink into the tanks. We had some ink spill but it was easily cleaned up. Once the ink was all in the wells we were ready to plug it in. I think the ability to refill the mega tanks is a huge plus. The bottles are spill proof and easy to fill the tanks. Ink refills seem reasonable at $18 for black and $12 for each of the colors
The initialization took about 5-6 minutes and it was rather noisy. All in all it took maybe 15-20 minutes to get everything connected and it online and ready to print. We've done a few black and color print outs and the colors are crisp, no run, quick to dry ink. All in all its a compact size printer with a big capacity of print jobs.
