Perfect for Dad - the do it all grill

I’ll start with the design. I wish this unit drained water. Yes, it is outside and covered when not in use, but rain happens at a short notice. There are parts of the grill that holds water like crazy. The doors and some other parts should have holes in the bottom to drain out rainwater.
I wish there was a vent on the hood for the smoke, that would be so cool to have. I understand combination grills need to vent because of hazards of propane gas and the sheer lack of common sense, however I do wish there was a way to restrict air flow. The charcoal burns too fast.
I don’t have space to keep two grills, so I got this one. This model is better than the three-burner model because you get two trays for the charcoal. I plan to use one tray and that way I can keep the ambient temperature and have option to do both direct and indirect cooking.
I do want to know why I can’t burn lump charcoal in this grill. I see instructions that I should not, but the instructions do not tell me why I should not do this. Is it a fire hazard, will the grill melt if I do, any information would be helpful.
The grill looks good. I like the four wheels; I can move it around. My deck has weird slope, so I do wish there was an easy way to level, especially when I am using the side burner.
The shipping was ok. The box was damaged from the bottom and the bottom part of the grill station is bent. I am guessing the forklift did this, but I did not realize until I got every part out of the box and had almost completed the assembly. I am not returning the unit just for this, too much hassle.
I was cleaning after the first fire, and I noticed a few dings and dents. This is certainly not shipping damage, it is clearly patched and painted over before shipping. I am hoping they do not start to rust.

If you are looking for a great charcoal grill, find something else. If you want to use charcoal for the flavor occasionally and use gas grilling otherwise, then this is perfect.

This completely changes grilling for me, being able to heat up charcoal so fast and in such small quantities is the best feature in any grill I've used. The quality is so-so, but the sheer functionality is incredible and a must have if you like charcoal flavor and want to grill about weekly. Char-Broil, please never discontinue it! I'll continue to buy another when the one I have breaks and probably for the foreseeable future unless another brand makes a similar style.

I like everything about the grill except it does not light electronically I have to light it manually every time. Have tried changing the electrode and regulator, nothing helps.

Imperfect Compromise

Need to replace defective wheel bracket seems easy, and Wayfair rescheduled an assembler to do the job. I am able to use the grill by propping the missing wheel. The grill ignites easily and gets to temperature quickly. The entire rear of the firebox stand is open which is strange but I was able to see the firewall flexing under the heat. Long term this will affect the screw anchors. I bought this for the charcoal capability, and was pleased how easy the coal was to ignite. The briquette tray is quite shallow however and the grates sit directly on the coals if you expect to pile on a second layer which is kind of crazy. This makes the briquettes suitable only for searing. It's not clear if the burner covers should be removed and replaced by the briquette tray or whether they should be left in place? I tried both and removing them was faster. Also the hood is unvented which is baffling. There are no good videos for this model or instructions showing its actual use, particularly as a charcoal grill. The briquette tray is ingenious in concept and ease of use, but executed badley limiting it's usefulness to searing if you use the grill grates. I would not repurchase or recommend.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Great grill, just one thing missing.

We have owned the original gas2coal style grill for many years and loved it. We decided to update to the new 4 burner gas2coal and still that great charcoal flavor and the ease of lighting and using the grill. The one thing missing is the ability to adjust the height of the grates like the old style grill, which was a feature we really liked.
