Bought this for my 16yr old son for Christmas and he loves it. We built it last night, took almost 2hrs maybe a bit less. I'd pick out the pieces and hand them to him.
It's really cool that the head moves around and the front opens up.

Amazing little droid.

got this after falling in love with this adorable little droid. Can I just say how happy I am with him. He's sturdy, very cool to build and a great addition to my Lego Collection.
A must for any fans.

This set is a great buy. When I first ordered it I did not really pay much attention to the details so I was pleasantly surprised when I found out that there was a mechanism inside. This was a fun build and BB-8 is just too cute!
My only negative it there is one is the stand. I am not sure why there is a stand for this set. BB-8 stands up fine on its own and I don't really find the stand to be that good looking.

Interesting building techniques both internal mechanism and external sphere. Very entertaining from bricking to playing. If we remove its head, it can actually roll like a ball :)

Ok, so first the build is a bit repetitive, but it's a sphere, so that should be no surprise. The interior mechanism for the moving parts was very impressive and satisfying. The play features are right on point. I really appreciated the layering technique used to achieve the spherical shape. I was very happy with the final result.

Tons of Character

Was a bit hesitant on this purchase initially but of course ended up pulling the trigger. My initial concern was the potential smaller than expected size and a monotonous build based on the shape. While BB-8 is a bit smaller than he appears on the back of the box, the final result is still stunning. Further, the build was surprising fun and challenging due to the many small white pieces.
The big takeaway on this set is that it possesses a level of character not present in most sets. When you twist the side panel and the head moves he literally seems alive. The wobbly travel created by the use of the gears and rubber band create something very unique and incredibly close to the movie experience. The extending "thumbs up" torch is also a great touch although if I'm being super critical it would be great if the flame was a bit more vertical when extended as it is slightly angled when built.
Overall, i would recommend this purchase. I am surprised it isn't a bit larger and advertised as a UCS for $25 more but for what you pay this is a really great set that has awesome display and play value.

Great Value for a Star Wars UCS

I bought this one so I could have both R2-D2 and BB-8. It was definitely a good investment. It was a lot of fun to build. There was almost no repetition. It would have been awesome if it was able to roll.
Overall, I love it.
