Doesn't do what it says

Cannot charge my MBP through it. It heats up intensely.
My iPad won't charge when I plug it into one of the USB3 ports.

We pride ourselves on our high-quality standards and are sorry to hear about the difficulties you're having with our DKT30CSDHPD. This dock should provide up to 60W charge to your MacBook Pro which should be enough to charge it when not in use, but if you're using it heavily it may not be enough for full speed charging as the included power adapter for the MacBook Pro is 85W. The USB 3.0 ports on the dock provide the standard 5V at 900mA power which, while enough to slow-charge most smartphones, may not be enough to keep an iPad charged if it's still in use since they often require 5V at 2.4A to charge at full speed.
Regardless of the above, the dock should not be heating up intensely and we'd like to speak with you to ensure that the dock you received is not faulty. Excellent USB-C Multiport Adapter

This is a small, space grey coloured USB-C multipart adapter. You will need a USB-C powered (charged) laptop (MacBook(S), Lenovo, Asus Chromebook, etc) that is powered by USB-C, in ordered to take advantage of the USB-C powered mode. However this does not preclude you from using with any other USB-C. It is always best to check with your original manufacturer of your laptop or hardware regarding the power delivery requirements needed - some adapter can consume some power and so the charging requirement might not be met for your device.
You can use this adapter without USB Power Delivery and with USB Power Delivery using your OEM USB-C power adapter (or a USB-C power adapter that is the same or higher).
Device connection is UBS-C and contains a gigabit ethernet port (on opposite end to connection cable), a USB-C pass thru port for charging (see above, 2 USB 3.0 ports and a full size 4K HDMI port. This USB-C device can be used on a Thunderbolt 3 port but on at USB speeds of 5Gbps.
The product works well and I have tried several different USB-C power adapter (all rated at the same or higher than my USB-C laptop requires) plugging into the USB-C with no issues. Note: the USB-C port on the adapter is meant for DC power or your laptops power adapter. It is a nice small adapter block that will satisfy all your connection issues with a USB-C powered laptop and does cut down on most of the clutter associated with devices that have minimal USB-C ports to plug things into. You also don't loose connectivity to your other technology devices plus it is nice having the HDMI and gig ethernet as well. I could not test the 4K HDMI as I don't have a 4K TV but still the quality was excellent.
Some of the multifunction devices out there I had found that they can cut out if all ports are being used (inferior quality) but I have not had this so far with this device.
Purchasing this would be a welcome addition to your USB-C laptop and certainly will not cost you and arm and leg. The fit and finish is great as well and it is a very easy carry in your laptop or gig bag.
There are several crowd funding platforms where similar devices are being sold and sold as part of a perk - but generally the cost is higher along with shipping and customs. StarTech has this available now so don't wait - make your USB-C powered device happy.

USB-C Multiport Adapter Power Deliver Made Easy

I have been in the AV/IT Integration space for over 30 years.
I found this unit easy to setup and use on my Microsoft and Apple devices. This adapter features USB Power Delivery, which is an excellent feature.
I utilized this unit with my laptop display, which made it easy to create a dual-monitor workstation.
The adapter can connect to a laptop’s USB-C port that doesn’t support USB Power Delivery 2.0. But when you are utilizing the unit in this manner, the unit will not pass power through to your host device.
The 4K or 3840 x 2160p resolution was crisp and without tearing or pixalization.
USB Type-C is new universal connectivity standard which combines all of your essential functions into one dynamic port. This adapter worked wonderfully with my USB-C devices.

This is my new favourite USB-C adapter. I wouldn’t have thought combining an SD card reader, Gigabit Network, HDMI Video and USB hub into one slim adapter was possible, but here it is. Add to it the adapter itself is beautiful; metal casing, smooth and durable. I’ve caught co-workers checking it out on several occasions and commenting on how well it is constructed. It’s small and portable, I don’t go anywhere without it!

USB ports so slow. Gets really hot.

Takes hours to charge my iPhone using the USB ports. My work paid for it, so I need a replacement but have no receipt. Support can you help me out? I'm a teacher and was really excited to get this device. It also gets really hot.

Charging and keyboard issues

I got this through work and it was not my choice, and I would have returned it if I could.
Windows tells me there may not be enough power to charge even though it is charging. Charger that comes with laptop is only 65W so this shouldn't be an issue.
The keyboard also REPEATEDLY just stops working multiple times throughout the day, including right now when I am trying to write this review. The backlighting is still on but the keys don't work. I have to keep disconnecting it, which completely defeats the purpose of having a dock! I may as well just manually reconnect everything when switching between my personal laptop.
