A cure for the wintertime blues

Although I received a free sample of this Philips energy light, it was something I was thinking of purchasing for a while. Once wintertime rolls around and the days get shorter and shorter, I definitely become more and more depressed. This is actually a medical disorder known as Seasonal Affective Disorder, which saps your energy and turns you into a moody mess. This Philips energy light was made to combat this disorder, and I'm happy to say it has done a very good job so far. The product couldn't be any easier to use; just plug it in and press the power button. There are a few different brightness settings that are easily changed as well. Once on, you just stand the unit up with the kickstand somewhere within your cone of vision and you are good to go. There is even a "status bar" that lets you know how long the light has been on in increments of 10 minutes.
My only issue with the light is the actual size of the unit. It is about twice the size of what I was expecting. I was hoping to be able to bring the unit to work with me and use it there, but it is just too big for that.
Overall I would certainly recommend this energy light to anyone who thinks they may suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder, or just needs an extra boost of energy. I have felt a fairly noticeable difference after using the light for a couple weeks. It will be a mainstay for me during the winter months from now on.
Pros: it works!, easy to use

Life-changing Lamp!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] First Impressions: I received this lamp in exchange for my unbiased opinion. Appearance-wise, the lamp is slim and sleek with minimal buttons on the display. I find that it blends in well with my modern decor. It is not intended to be portable, but it is very light and can easily be moved from room to room or stored when not in use.
Usability: Using the light is amazingly easy; you just plug it in, press the power button, and sit as it automatically turns on to the intensity level that you were last using it. You can adjust the angle of the stand as necessary and then go about your normal activities like reading or watching television. A handy flashing display lets you know for how many 10 minute increments it has been on.
Effectiveness: I was amazed at how influential this lamp has been on my mood and energy. I have never been diagnosed with Seasonal Affective Disorder, but I can't deny the fact that the dark winter months tend to make me feel gloomy and lethargic. I usually do a pretty good job of maximizing my time in natural daylight each day, but just 20 minutes/day in front of the lamp has drastically improved my overall disposition. I find that using the lamp when I come home from work makes me more productive and sociable in the evenings when I would previously just mope and sleep. My boyfriend and friends have all commented that I seem to be more myself since the lamp has come into my life.
Downsides: The product manual recommends setting the light up to face you head-on about 16-24 inches from your face. I find this to be a bit awkward and unnatural as usually I have something else in front of me as well (a laptop or book). Instead, I usually direct it at an angle several feet away for a more comfortable view. I also recommend using a lower intensity setting if you plan to use this product in the evening, as I found out the hard way that the high levels can make it difficult to fall asleep.
Conclusion: This lamp has changed my life and I highly recommend it for anyone who is trying to increase their energy and boost their mood!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I am writing a review of the HF3418/60 Philips Natural Energy White Light Therapy device, which I received free of charge in exchange for my unbiased opinion.
The device was very easy to set up and use. The instruction manual was very simply written – there is no ambiguity or complicated directions to figure out in the instruction manual. One great feature is that there was no assembly at all - it’s simply a matter of plugging the device in and pressing buttons. While the product is aesthetically pleasing (great visual design), and is easy to use, I did find it a little big and cumbersome. I was expecting the product to be much smaller, and with the size of this device, it was often hard to find space and positioning for it on my desk and tables. Having the product available in smaller size(s) would be a tremendous improvement.
Another minor downside is the intensity of the light. At full power, after a few minutes, I began to feel eyestrain due to the intensity of the light. However, that issue is easily correctable by simply dialing down the light intensity. The ability to adjust the intensity to fit different comfort levels is an excellent feature. I must also mention that I was a little concerned that the light bulb is not replaceable. Although the product manual states that the LED lamp will last for several years, I personally would feel more at ease if I knew the lamp could be easily replaced by me.

Overall, I feel that the product performed pretty well. The light emitted from the device actually gave me the impression that it was natural sunlight. After using the device consistently (daily, at the same time, for the same duration of time, for 7 days straight), I am actually able to stay awake at least a whole hour and a half later than I would usually become tired and fall asleep at night. Because I’ve experienced positive results after having used the Energy Light, I fully intend to continue using this product.
Pros: ease of use, ability to adjust light intensity, design is beautiful
Cons: a little large/bulky

The Philips Natural Energy White Light came securely packaged and arrived without damage via the mail. I was easily able to open the box and the light was wrapped in a protective cover, with strong support surrounding it. I did not need scissors or other tools to unbox the light. The packaging was as minimal as one could expect a breakable object to ship in.
Once the light was unboxed, it was extremely simple to assemble and begin to use. Simply plug and push the one button.

First uses:
For the first 5-10 uses, the light starts out less bright, getting you used to the intensity and new treatment. To be honest, I did not notice the change, and just adjusted the brightness as needed. There are 5 brightness levels and it was very helpful. I adjusted throughout the treatment and when I needed more light, simply increased the light.

The distribution of the light was very even. It filled up my entire kitchen, making it brighter and more cherry. Typically, I would use the light at my desk with working and I felt that the coverage was very good.

The free sample I received provides good light and has a quality feel to it. The controls are smooth and easy to use. The light is generally too bright for night time use especially when facing the eyes. I like the product and the light it provides but I find it a little too bright even at its dimmest setting.
Pros: good controls, good light
Cons: too bright for the eyes

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I received this product in exchange for my unbiased opinion. Overall, I really enjoy using the energy light. I started to feel the positive effects of the light therapy in just a few days. I was able to use the light while working on my computer at my office desk. I am using it mid-morning for about 30 minutes each day. I can honestly say that I am feeling more energy later in the day.
The unit is made well and its looks are contemporary and stylish. It has a simple and clean design, similar to what you would find on other modern technology devices. I like the option for intensity adjustments, although I usually set it at the highest level.
You have the option to use the Philips mobile app to set up a customized program with daily reminders and progress reports. I used the app for a few days but I decided I could get along without it. I didn`t really see the value in it.
Overall, I am pleased with the unit and plan to continue using it. It seems to be making positive impact during these winter months.
Pros: easy to use, stylish, gives you more energy

A large product that does it's job

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I received this product in exchange for my unbiased opinion and have used it for a little over 10 days now. It has been very useful in my day to day because I`m a programmer working in an office with little sunlight and needed some light my way.
It is somewhat big, taking the size of my monitor in length and wide enough where it is very noticeable on a desk. You will want to make desk space for this if used on one. It does have an adjustable stand on the back that can be used to hang on certain spots like walls or if you want the light to be aimed at a specific spot. The stand itself isn`t flimsy and can definitely support the weight.
Set up is very simple as it only requires power from an outlet. It isn`t difficult to move around because of this, but it is big, so a bit of caution is a good idea.
I was surprised at its ease of use. It`s ready to go once it’s out of the box and plugged in. It has 3 buttons; 2 to adjust the brightness between 5 settings and a power button. It notifies you how long it has been on with a small bar on the bottom that lights up every 10 minutes until it reaches an hour.
Overall, I enjoyed the product, it feels very high quality and well worth its price, it`s very simple to set up and use and it does its job wonderfully. I only have 2 small complaints about the product; 1, it`s large so you really can`t take it traveling and 2, the notification for when an hour passes is very hard to notice if you`re into your work because you aren`t directly looking at the light most of the time.

Cons: very big, hard to travel with

PACKAGING/ASSEMBLY: I received this product in exchange for my unbiased opinion. The box was nice and easy to open. The only assembly was to plug it in which was extremely easy.
INSTRUCTIONS: The instruction guide was overwhelmingly long. It took me a few days before I actually decided to make time to read it. Even after reading it was not clear to me how long and at what time of the day to keep the light on.
STORAGE: This product was extremely larger than what I expected. It was hard to find space to put it and anywhere it sat took up a lot of space and was not very appealing. I used it at home and it was on the kitchen table looking very out of place. I also used it at work where it took up a big portion of my desk
USAGE: I used the product for about 2 weeks every morning for roughly 30 minutes. I was very disappointed that after the 2 weeks nothing had changed in my mood. I had no extra energy which I was really hoping to gain. I thought maybe I was not using it for long enough or at the right times of day but this leads back to the instructions which were very difficult to follow.
CONCLUSION: After doing some research and found out the price of this product I can definitely said I would not purchase this on my own. I'm not sure if it takes more time to notice a difference. Overall it took up a lot of space, could have been designed to look more as a decoration than just a huge bright light, and I didn't receive any results from it.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
