Not happy

I bought microwave model #umc5225gz. It keeps running when door is closed, button does not. Just two in family, not much use. According to website this model will not be available soon. Lasted 2 years, my previous one lasted 10 years. Whats up

Do not buy! Believe the reviews

Came as a built in for our new home built in 2020. Now having the issues everyone is mentioning where microwave stays on but does not heat. Have to unplug for it to turn off. Sad this is still sold as a build in option kit with all these issues. Has anyone has success replacing this with a different microwave?

Push Button Door Opener

We bought our Whirlpool microwave model UMC5225GZ-1 September 22, 2019. We immediately noticed the "sloppiness", "looseness" of the push button door opener. Almost half the time we attempt to open the door, the door open button it is so loose it moves all the way in to its limit and does not operate the latch and the door does not open. We must release it and try again, pushing it completely in and holding it there to get the door to open. We are very careful and gentle with the opener because it feels weak and ready to fail completely. This simple little part should not be this cheap. We "know" it will fail after the warranty expires and that the expense of having it fixed will not be justifiable.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Possessed Microwave!! It does NOT shut off!!

I have the previous model (WMC50522AS1) so after locating this replacement model and reading reviews, there is NO WAY I would purchase this model. Many reviews repeat what I'm experiencing in the old model - once the door is closed it starts running & heating. How can the old model be replaced with the new model with the same faulty design? And, I share everyone's frustrations: the dimensions are unique so I cannot find another quality model (Whirlpool or its competitors) that fit. I will happily change my review with a more positive update if Whirlpool customer service can make this right.

Never turns off!

Microwave purchased with new home Nov 2022. It will not shut off. Even with lights off it still cooks. Had to turn off at breaker before ceramic plates exploded. Do not recommend! Need a company recall on this model

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS

We got this microwave pre-installed in our new home. I liked the size of it and it worked fine until it just refused to turn off. Any time the door was closed, it turned on and would not stop unless the door was kept open.Had to pull it out and unplug it before the house burnt down. Don't know where to go from here as there is no troubleshooting for this defect. DO NOT BUY this product. Very disappointed in Whirlpool for selling this.

Very Dissatisfied-stopped working

Very dissatisfied . This microwave has been intermittently not cooking and then just totally stopped working while heating last night. Very upset because this microwave should have lasted much longer and the fact that it is built in to our cabinets with the trim kit is going to make it very tough to find a replacement.

Dangerous microwave

Everyone is correct that this is terrible product. It came with our new house and all Whirlpool appliances so that they match. Now, we have lived here a few years. The microwave would not shut off when you close the door and it overheats. We unplugged it to let it cool down and hoped that it would be fine when we plugged it back in. When we plugged it in, it sparked and started started automatically. It's very dangerous now and I would not try to plug it in again for fear that it might catch fire. We are looking for a new Whirlpool microwave but of course, they don't make any that fit the same trim kit. Why can't you make products with the same dimensions so you can reuse parts. The kitchen looks trashy now and I wish we had not purchases whirlpool because nothing matches any more.
