It's pretty good

I use it for non graphically intensive gaming and game design. Overall it works fairly well. Things load quickly and with no problems. I do have a few complaints and annoyances. The big 2 complaints was 1 the battery life is a bit unexpectedly short. 2 is it did crash once but I was switching between multiple programs that are relatively heavy. My mild annoyances is the keypad is too small but most people won't care too much. The other one is this silly dedicated button for recording. My hand is a bit large and occasionally bumps it which is a tad annoying. Beyond those gripes I have enjoyed my 3 weeks with it so far. The keyboard is good and lights up for those late nights of programming or gaming. The track pad is smartly placed a bit off center so I don't accidentally swipe or click it (you can turn it off as well but it's nice). After I better adapt to the keyboard and it's quirks I'm sure I'll have an even better time with it.

I bought this laptop about one month and a half ago and I have to say that I am very satisfied with it.
The performances are great The look is insane The red lit keyboard is a very nice touch The quality of the screen is surprisingly good The quality of the speakers is incredible for a laptop! You'll be nicely surprised!
I played about 80 hours of civilization 5, all settings set to highest and the computer handle it with ease.
10/10 would recommend it to anyone looking for an affordable gaming laptop with great performances.

Got the 80YY0060US model. Can not stress about how good this laptop is, it's capable of running any latest game at ultra settings with an average of 100 fps. I would recommend this laptop and it is worth the price no doubt.

Excellent laptop (with a minor annoyance)

I have had this laptop for several months (version with i7-7700HQ, GTX1060-3GB, 256GB SSD + 2TB HDD, 16GB RAM) and am very satisfied with it.
My only minor problem with the laptop is the mouse buttons on the touchpad do not depress on the inside edge, only on the outer edges of the buttons. With my previous laptops, I would hover my index finger over the middle of the left and right click buttons and press the buttons on their inside edges so that I need a minimum amount of finger travel to click either the left or right click buttons.
With the buttons on the Y520 you are forced to travel your fingers significantly farther when alternating between left and right clicks using the physical buttons. It took my a few weeks to get used to these buttons and I still find the extra finger travel time a little bit annoying. With several hundred alternating left and right clicks in a typical workday, those extra fractions of a second each click for finger travel time add up. It's not much, but it's noticeable.
I've gotten used to it and adapted to the minimum travel time necessary to have the buttons depress without moving my finger all the way to the far corners (the buttons can be depressed starting about halfway along each button). But I still miss the occasional click where I don't move my finger far enough and the button won't depress.
If you use an external mouse, you'll never encounter this issue. Personally, I prefer to use the touchpad (again, it's an issue of efficiency, there is less hand travel time moving from keyboard to touchpad than there is moving your hand from the keyboard to an external mouse).
I love everything else about this laptop. But I'd prefer it if the mouse buttons could be depressed along their inside edges. That being said, the fact that this is my only problem with the laptop is telling! Outside of this issue, I am very happy with this laptop.

Constant problems

I though I was going to get a decent computer for the price but it really just a big headache. I've owned the computer for 7 months and I've had to send it back 3 times already for the exact same problem. If you don't mind sending your laptop away for a couple weeks every 2 months this is the laptop for you

Great features for the price. Purchased 3 for the family... one for an engineering student to run autocad, one for video editing, one for stitching and editing photos. Added a second memory card on two of them. Super fast. Meets all our needs.
