I have used Otterbox cases for 5 phones now. Many years of experience. I ordered the Commuter case at the same time I submitted my pre-order for the Samsung Galaxy Note8 phone. Given my history, I trust Otterbox. The Commuter fits very well to the Note8. As expected it takes a little patience to work the hard shell into the rubber jacket. This tells me it will fit snugly. I love the Commuter design and tech. The top and bottom of the case provide just enough of a raised edge to give a little protection from a flat screen-down drop. Inside the case, the phone feels secure in my hand. Usability of the device is not impaired, I can access all buttons, connectors, cameras, fingerprint sensor. I have no trouble getting the phone to Fast Wireless Charge through the Commuter case using a Samsung Fast Charge pad, or a QInfinity car dock. Highly recommend the Commuter Case for the Note8 (and for any phone, actually.) The next phone I get will also get an Otterbox Commuter Case.

Bought this case for my Note 8 about a week ago and I wasn't happy with the color and how it fit . I selected the color blue an it looks like a dark purple.It fits the phone nice around the edges but the screen is exposed about half an inch,so if you drop it and it lands face down on the screen, It's a possibility that the screen will absorb most of the impact and crack.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I bought this case about a month ago and it has not let me down in the protection department. I have dropped it several times and my phone has come out on the other end unscathed.
I would say the only two downsides to this case are the following:
1. I can tell that the silicon around the S-Pen area will start sagging sooner or later due to lack of support from the hard plastic portion of the case.
2. This case is very slippery. Most of my drops were due to the slickness of the hard plastic portion of the case. The only bright side to the slickness is how easily the phone is inserted and removed from my pocket.
I would recommend OtterBox, but I would like some type of grip increasing design to be implemented.

For the price you'd think there would be better quality control. The left side of the rubber piece arrived frayed and has had material crumbling away. I've thought about cutting away some of the material, but chances are that will just make it worse. A brand new Otterbox shouldn't be like this.

I had a Commuter case for my S7 Edge. The fit on it was a bit better than this one for the Note 8. Overall the Note 8 one is fine. It's a little loose in a couple of spots.
Nice and snug in the middle but loose at the top and bottom. Perhaps another piece of the harder plastic towards the top on the edges would help. I'm actually considering a different case. A bit on the fence though.

Swear by otterbox, note 8 curved glass design unfortunately leves little protection for glass on sides. Need you guys to release glass protection already! 9 days with phone and case, cracked screen :(

I am one of those people who are constantly dropping their phones. I left a horrifying trail of shattered and busted phones in my wake before I started using OtterBox cases. Since I started using them, I still drop my phone a dozen times a day, but I've never had a phone break or a screen shatter. OtterBox literally saves my phone from me.
I also love the "Ballet Way" pink color that the Commuter comes in. Beautiful color, and I liked having an option other than black or white.
