Not the Phone I Expected
on November 20, 2017

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Eagerly awaited release and purchase of the LG V30, only to be disappointed in the build quality. Tapping (KnockOn) my LG G2 screen is like tapping on a firm, solid foundation (I liken it to a floor tile, it is that hard). Tapping on the screen of the V30 feels squishy and cheap, more like the trackpad of an inexpensive laptop. Spending this kind of money for a downgrade in screen qulity is hard to accept. And the Android update to 7.0.x is a letdown too.
Functionality is significantly changed and, incredibly, some features of the old OS are gone, like controlling all volume levels with a quick pull-down of the “lampshade.” Now you have to go hunt for the volume levels in settings.
I could not get the fingerprint scanner to work either – it keeps prompting me to clean the lens, which I did twice. Incredibly the phone’s keyboard – even using the much vaunted Gboard – does not support landscape orientation! Rotate it from portrait to use its larger keys and you lose whatever field you are attempting to fill out. It is a maddening experience.
For the cost and aggravation of changing phones, and given the disappointing Android experience with its voice-to-text errors and carried-over software bugs from previous iterations, such as the wrong face and name on an incoming text or call, the V30 is something I could have done without.
The chipset platform makes for a powerhouse smartphone, and the call quality is landline caliber. But they not worth the money. Might return the phone and reactivate my trusty G2.
Pros: Performance
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Manual Video Focus is the best.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This phone is quite good. Although I miss the interchangeable batteries of the LG G-series phones, the battery life on the V30 is good enough that I don't have any complaints.
The camera app is quite good. Manual focus is something I have looked for since my first smartphone, and although other phones have had it for their cameras, this is my first phone with manual focus video and it is excellent. The wide-angle camera is also very nice. I went with a Galaxy S7 between the G5 and this phone and I really missed that wide-angle camera.
My only complaint is price- this bad boy cost more than I have ever spent on a phone, and I'm still a little bitter about it, but it does the things I want it to do.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Good features and hardware make for a satisfactory experience in ownership.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I really wanted to like this phone. After having the phone just a couple of days, I inadvertently realized that you're able to access numerous functions without even unlocking the phone. Why in the world would they allow this?
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this about 3 weeks ago and it is awesome! Great Camera and very clear screen. LG, keep up the good work!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I like LG phones. I had a regular cell phone LG Extravert and liked it. So, I decided to go with a LG smartphone. It's a thin phone and with all it's features, it makes it very convenient to have. It has a nice camera, front and back camera. There are a lot of apps to choose from with this phone.
