Best Grill Ever, but packing / shipping needs help

Ok, the title is the bottom line, this little beauty is just great to cook with! The grill is solid, has heavy cast iron grates for cooking, and has a great level of adjustment from the control knobs. Lovely light blue flame, the air / fuel mixture is perfect! Grill lights easily and heats very quickly, I used to have to let my old one heat for 7 - 10 minutes to get to cooking temp, this one is 3 or 4 minutes tops. This is the most efficient grill I've ever had, and I've had several of them. Heat distribution is super, cooks much better than the predecessor.
Shipping was quick and easy, but it was obvious the shipping container had not been treated with care, I was apprehensive when I saw it. Inside I could tell a lot of thought had been paid to protecting the grill, almost enough. Some of the various modeled Styrofoam pieces had actually broken, but they stayed in place, result, the outside of the grill is pristine even though it had obviously spent some time on it's sides and was upside down a few times. The shipping container displayed its rough history, and it actually split down the side as I was unpacking, had to get out some duct tape just to hold it together because I didn't want things spilling on the ground. This is the one thing that needs improvement, just because it's a big heavy box does not mean it's a green light to roll it around and abuse it. So - not happy with that part. But - all the parts were there, and like I said, the outside of the grill survived unscathed, so the packaging engineers almost got it right. Inside, it's a bit of different story.
Unpacking is like taking a puzzle apart, and as you work your way down you get most of the outside stuff laid out and then you get to the grill lid. This is where the packaging engineers muffed it! As I mentioned, it has heavy cast iron cooking grates. These are packed inside the grill top, they have good Styrofoam packing under them, but nobody thought about what happens if the container goes on it's side or on it's top. Someone should put a piece of packing material such that the inside of the grill top is protected if it turns upside down. In my case, the inside of the grill top was pretty beat up, several dents, it has an inside cover piece, so the outside is great, the damage can't be seen until you open the lid. Also, the temperature sensor was gone, just beat to pieces and it fell out someplace. The outside temp display was gone, I finally found it in the bottom of the box. Also, 2 of the burner cover supports had been bent, and there was some enamel marring in a few places. I was able to straighten out the burner cover supports, and inspection revealed no damage to the burners or the piping, so I decided to live with it. This did give me the opportunity to call customer support, so I can rate them also, later on.
Assembly is straight forward, and not difficult. Of all the grills I've put together, this one actually makes sense. You start at the bottom and work your way up, and all the screws / bolts you have to install have built in receivers for them, so there is no fiddling around dropping nuts and things and trying to sort out which hole is which. Very well done! The packing of the screws and bolts is very well done, easy to find, packed such that you can find everything. Another Kudo on that. Lastly, everything is there for natural gas, right down to the connection hose with coupler. Since this is a replacement grill, I already had the standard natural gas fitting on the supply side, and the grill hose coupler plugged right on, can't beat standardization! Assembly only took a couple hours, and an expert could probably slap it together in 30 minutes or so.
Customer support is great! You make the call, wait on hold a few minutes, supply your serial number and you are set. The CSR was nice and polite, and said they would ship out the temp sensor and display next day. Took about 3 days to get the replacement, and a simple install, then I was back in business and ready to cook.
So far, I've used it 5 or 6 times and each time is a treat, I just love this grill! Should I have rejected the shipment based on the condition of the outside box? I don't know. I decided to go with it as is. Hopefully I just was unlucky and this is an isolated case. I am going to leave packing feedback though. Anyway, in spite of all that, I love this grill!

Most items that need assembly have terrible instructions causing frustration and double work. This grill, not only nice looking, had user assembly friendly instructions that were so good I actually commented on it to my wife.

Good value for the price

I was looking for a natural gas grill with good heat and a reasonable price. I had seen other manufacturers grills but could not find this grill anywhere but on line. The grill is excellent for the price, plenty of heat and a large grilling area. The metal is lighter gauge than some other grills that cost more. There were some pieces that were bent in shipping that I was able to straighten prior to assembly. I am pleased with the grill overall. fr

Can't Beat it for Money

Father-in-law had one and I used it several times to cook out at their place. It is built well, nice grates, lights quickly, gets hot and is consistent. I utilize the lid down and timing method and this grill makes it easy. Bought one myself and it is exactly the same story. Great grill, great price. Get the cover for it (which is also quality).
