Great features in a very compact design

I'm moving from running a rental operation where I had access to things like the Canon Cinema series back to just being a high end amatuer. I've been spoiled using a Canon C200 to shoot 4K and have the options of 4K60 and 1080p120. This is my consoliation prize and I'm very pleased.
Is it as good as the C200? Of course not, but the 1-inch sensor is large enough to produce good performance in low light, given this class of camera. It's also large enough to create some depth of field effect when zoomed out - again, it's not a Super 35 senor so it isn't as much, but it's still there. In addition, the ability to output clean 8-bit 422 4K video to a recorder gives you a high-quality recording option if you need it than the 150 Mbps AVC recording internally.
I'm affectionately referring to this as my baby C200 as it offers many of the same features in a much smaller package. I'm quite pleased.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Almost Ready for Prime Time

I had great experience working with the Canon Vixia HF G40, and decided to step up to the GX10. The features were very attractive - including the full 4K 60fps capture rate. The GX10 has the same general form factor as the G40 - a little larger, with an internal fan, and a little more weight. Also, the Canon shotgun microphone (DM-100) worked find in the smartshoe of the GX10 just as it did in the G40. I also use some enhancement products from Studio One Productions, and those addtional features work great with the GX10 LANC Remote Connection as well.
However, I have used the camera twice capturing my grandson's football games, and i think the product could use some improvements.
1) The camera gets hot when recording in 4k60 Mode
Shooting after dusk, in 90F temperature outdoors, the camera recorded for about five minutes before displaying the yellow temperature warning in the LCD screen. The red temperature warning appeared after about 20mins, and alternated between yellow and red for the rest of the recording session - about an hour.
I was very concerned about this behavior - the warning indicators are not documented in the current online instructions manual for this camera. Does it damage the camera to record with the red indicator present? What are the hazards?
I did not see any degradation in the recording on playback, but I am concerned about this. Does this mean that if I use it outdoors in broard daylight, it could potentially stop recording altogether - until it cools down?
More importantly - does this imply that this camera is not a good choice for outdoor use?
2) Playback from the camera is problematic
(recording was 4k 60fps for this test)
Using the Mini HDMI connector, I plugged this camera into a Sony 4K television to playback. When so connected, at the Camera menu (not playing back), the menu would "flicker" - the television display would intermittently go dark, and then return after about 10 seconds.
Playback was not entirely crisp and clear when HDMI output was set to HD (1920/1080). The darker areas/shadows had "sparkles" - just enough to be a distraction.
When playback was set to 4k (3840/2160), the playback was excellent - very crisp and clear.
OF NOTE: recorded quick action shots did not show the tilted/degraded video quality that you would see with earlier, 4k consumer models - the fast action shots were crystal clear - this was very reassuring to see.
The only way to really control the camera was to use the built in LCD fold out screen - the menu displays on the television were erratic and difficult to use.
3) Provided Wireless Control (WL-D89)
I was very disappointed in this feature.
Using the remote and the battery included with the camera, I would face the camera about 2 feet away (camera lens facing me).
Using the remote, the camera would sometimes react to a button press from the remote, sometimes it would not. In this scenario, it was very difficult to tell what the buttons would do - sometimes a button press would do nothing.
Also disappointing: it was unclear if the wireless remore would allow fast forward play, or reverse play - the only way I could find to move around in a recorded video was to stop the video completely, and restart at the beginning.

Overall, the camera was simple to use just as the G40, and is still light weight and easy to handle. However, while being feature rich, the quality of some of those features seems deficient. I sure hope Canon will resolve these minor problems in future firmware updates.
