Sound, Reliability, and Features Beyond its Price!

Several months ago, my wife bought me the budget-priced but feature-packed Onkyo TX-8220 stereo receiver as a gift, replacing an aging Harman-Kardon. Well, we couldn't be happier with our new Onkyo! Immediately upon unboxing it, I hooked up our existing Infinity active subwoofer and passive bookshelf speakers, made excellent use of the numerous digital and analogue inputs and outputs, and switched on enveloping sound from CD, turntable, and radio tuner! Before long, I had added a pair of outdoor speakers and had begun to experiment with various Bluetooth sources. / Granted, the TX-8220 does not offer surround sound, but its traditional stereo sound for music (our bag) or movies (not our bag) is clear as a bell! "Immersive" audio does not have to come with an extreme price tag, and it seldom requires a room filled with ×qspeakers! The Onkyo TX-8220, one or two good speaker pairs, a sub (optional, but I recommend it), and quality conponents may be all you need for great music.
Love the sound n quality Its a great stereo Especially the blue tooth
I would recommend this to a friend!

I chose this Onkyo receiver over similarly priced stereo receivers because it had a dedicated subwoofer out jack. It has plenty of clean power to drive my Q bookshelf speakers and my sub. The FM reception is fantastic, the bluetooth pairs easily with everything I have tried and my CDs never sounded so good...CJ

ADDENDUM TO EXISTING REVIEW - NO CHANGE OF OPINION
on February 29, 2024

In trying to add this update to my existing review, I accidentally "reported" myself... oops! Anyhow, I would like to clarify that the amazing TX-8220 includes a built-in Bluetooth RECEIVER, meaning that it will effectively and powerfully convey the stereo audio signal from a computer, tablet, phone, or any other Bluetooth source. However, it does not contain a TRANSMITTER, so used right out of the box, the TX-8220 will not send wireless signals anywhere else, such as to a Bluetooth speaker. This can be achieved only through the wired addition of a wireless transmitter or transceiver. Yes, a multizonal setup can be accomplished with the purchase of such an aftermarket unit ; however, two wired stereo zones (to Passive Speaker System A, Left and Right; and Passive Speaker System B, Left and Right) plus a wired output for a powered subwoofer -- a strong, 5-speaker system overall -- can be accommodated to the TX-8220 without modification. With its lossless, wired stereo speaker output capacity; with its plethora of distortion-free digital and analogue audio (and related video) inputs and outputs; and with its ability to receive and play back a Bluetooth signal -- a Bluetooth TRANSMITTER would seem unnecessary to many of us.

Very disappointed

I purchased the Onkyo specifically because it has Bluetooth capability. The goal is to connect via Bluetooth to a Sonos speaker, also Bluetooth. Zero after purchasing a wireless adapter. Support from Onkyo has been slow and completely unhelpful. I am very disappointed as I also purchased an Onkyo CD changer to be able to listen to my vast cd collection. It makes no sense

Annoying Popping Sound

I bought this receiver for my computer's sound system. I use my computer as a digital audio workstation (DAW). This receiver intermittently makes a clicking sound which comes out of the speakers as a popping sound and taints any recording I try to make. Onkyo rep claims it's normal, so I'm stuck with not being able to use my DAW unless I buy another brand receiver that actually works properly. I've owned only Onkyo receivers going back a few decades and never had this problem.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Warm, and mellow

For the money this is a great sounding receiver and easy to use. I replaced a Rotel A8 amplifier with this. The sound is warm and mellow and clear. For the price who could fault this receiver? Some people have unrealistic expectations.
