I upgraded from a STR-DN1040 so the install was relatively easy. I did not have any hitches along the way. The instruction manual did not instruct how to set-up Bravia Sync. I went to the support site and printed. All the functionality is right on the face of the Receiver which make makes adjustments a breeze. I needed this Receiver for 4K passthrough. All is working well. I also upgraded my HDMI cables to 18 gb. I have only had this Receiver less than 24 hours so this review is lacking as to what I will know more down the road. So far I am very pleased.
Bought this at Christmas, 2017. It's a great product, easy to use, easy to set up.
I would recommend this to a friend!

The audio sound quality is better than I have ever expected in my home theater. Streisand singing People is spectacular using the STR-ZA3100ES and the plasma column Speakers with the VPL-VW365ES projector. This was a re-lace net for TA9000ES component setup. This compared against my KAWAI PIANO WITH piano disk setup. My 15 year old component system and SACD’s in the theater do not compare with the newAV Receiver. It is also part of total house system of the future. The quality of the music is better than ever expected!

I bought this receiver about 2 months ago. I spent a couple weeks going through my head how I wanted to set this receiver up it was a huge leap from what I had. I went with the 5.2.4 Amos setup Polk in walls and Sonance symphonies In Ceiling with 2 subs along with a second zone with 2 extra amps and a Harmony elite pro remote. the most important thing is to read the manual so you understand what this receiver can and can't do. I am pretty satisfied with my choice ( I expect a lot from anything Sony I expect it to be a high standard no excuses) The main thing that would make this receiver perfect is it it had bluetooth, some Apps and airplay. It could use some more processing modes. A wireless surround option would also be a great additional feature and even better if Sony made speaker to go with the system .As far as a receiver is concerned it has everything you need, and it is set up pretty logical if you read the manual , It seems to run cool but I added two fans to play it safe. The browser setup is great that is one of my favorite features along with the ethernet switch made it easy to pair up my X-1000 Es blu-ray player (review on this coming after I use it some more). HDMI switching has been working with no hiccups. It sounds great I like the faceplate hides everything even with my install is hidden I feel I bought a quality receiver I hope to get many years of service out of it. I will get another for my bedroom probably the DN-1080, out of the ES line of receivers I think the ES ZA-3100ES is the best one to get, it has plenty of power and enough expandability for the future. Hopefully updates can add some of these features
I have had the receiver in my sound system for 10 months and it is just great! Fantastic sound from all sources; blue-ray, cable, Apple TV, computer, iTunes, etc.
A wide, beautiful sound-stage that fills my large living room with wonderful entertainment! It replaces an ES that was 20 years old!!

I had to replace a Sony 5300 when we lost an audio channel and I wanted a receiver that would pass 4k for future proofing. I always hate tearing into a perfectly functioning system and the gosh awful time it takes to tweak and figure out how everything works. This was a breeze! I'm not bent on tweaking every little detail, I just want a flat and relatively accurate sound. This gave me just what I wanted right out of the box. No long study period on the manual, no trying to figure out what features to turn on and which to shut off. Just a quick and easy setup that took maybe an hour or so and most of that was connections and dusting the area behind the old unit. Having a built in switch allowed me to get rid of an old switch which looked ridiculous in the cabinet. Much cleaner now than before.
Next project will be to replace the Sony VPL-VW50 projector with a VPL-VW885ES. 4k and no more bulb replacements. Or at least a lot fewer bulb replacements... :-)
