Problem with Release Petal

Almost since we pitched the GE trash compactor we have had issues with the foot petal release mechanism. I my opinion it is a poor design although I am no engineer.
The actual compactor works great.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Trash compactor

This replaced a 30 year old machine
It is quieter. It looks great and seems to work well.
My only complaint is this one lacks a caddy or sling for lifting the full bag out, on trash days.

LACK OF FEATURES

NO EXTRA PAC FEATURE, AND HIDDEN CONTROLS SO YOU CANNOT STOP THE UNIT IN THE DOWN POSITION, SINCE NO EXTRA PAC. PLASTIC BAG IS MUCH MORE DIFFICULT TO USE THAN THE PAPER BAGS. NO CARRIER TO HELP IN THE REMOVAL OF THE LOADED TRASH BAG. DRAWER DOESN'T ROLL IN AND OUT SMOOTHLY, LIKE ROLLERS HAVE FLAT SPOTS.

Good for the short few years that it worked.

This was an amazing compactor in the beginning. Unfortunately it has slowly needed lots of parts replaced, which now we can’t even find the parts and will have to buy a new compactor I think.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Breaks frequently, since they say I bought it. always getting repaired. At least been repairs 4 times. Repairs and parts cost more than what I paid for it

We definitely understand the importance of an appliance operating as designed for a long period of time. However, it is not possible to determine the product failure rate. There are multiple variables involved such as frequency of use, type of use, location of appliance, care, and maintenance. In some cases, it may be more cost effective to replace the unit opposed to repairing the unit depending on the age of the appliance or the vitality of the part needing to be replaced.
