GE Trash Compactor

I bought a GE Trash Compactor when I built my house in 1994. It was the best trash compactor but when it finally needed to be replaced I immediately went to a GE that fit in the same built in location. Boy, was I disappointed. My old compactor allowed you to turn off the compactor and hold down the trash allowing more space in each bag. Yes, the bag were heavy but I used a lot less bags and only had to take out once a week. This compactor does not allow you to turn it off in the down compaction and so it really doesn't compact much trash. It was just an expensive garbage can that hides my trash. It won't even compress a milk carton. So disappointed.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

We are very unhappy with this GE universal trash compactor! The pedal is very floppy and it ended up breaking down the first week we had it.
Finally got a repair man to come take a look at it and he determined that he needed to order a new switch. Been waiting for that part for two weeks now! So I’ve had this trashcan picked her over a month and I’ve only used it one week in total. I would never recommend this to anyone!

Works good, does what it is supposed to do. I had one in my last kitchen so decided to put one in the new house. A couple of comments, not really complaints, it would be nice if there was a place to put a deodorizer inside like my last unit had and the mounting brackets that are supplied for mounting if you have a granite or other solid surface need more than the one screw hole that is provided. It was an easy fix for the mounting brackets by installing a second self tapping screw

Does the job

Overall this compactor does a great job. It looks great with the rest of my kitchen - even though it is black, it goes well with the black stainless steel in the rest of my kitchen.
The only quirk is that it opens by stepping on the foot pedal, and operates by lifting up on the foot pedal. It is easy to accidently start the compacting by mistake. (My previous compactor was operated by pressing a button). Will take some "retraining" for the household.
