No remote and no control

This is my first robot vacuum. After reviewing a lot of very expensive vacuums we decided on this one as a lower price entry level as we did not know what to expect. We set the vacuum on the charger and waited overnight for it to charge. I began trying it out today but to my dismay there is absolutely no control over this thing. No remote, no way to set it to start on its own and no way to use wifi and your phone for controls. Just simply no control. So my husband is following it around our family room making sure it doesn't go where it shouldn't as we have a fireplace, three throw rugs, wood floors and a small are of carpeting. That being said, it is vacuuming and getting stuff up. So as a vacuum it works. It also does start to suck stronger when on carpet so that does work. Its pattern is very strange but maybe thats because it has to map the house out before it really knows where to go.
I am very disappointed there is no control over this thing but we will see how it maps out the house and see if it will behave itself over time. The bummer is now we can only run it when home and watching it. The one GOOD thing is that its not very loud so it can run while watching TV no problem. My dogs don't seem to be affected by it and after sniffing it a little they are ignoring it.
I guess I would recommend this model for people who have a simple layout of a room with no areas that can't be vacuumed. We will have to figure out how to keep it away from the fireplace area hoping over time it is a little smart.

Worst robot vacuum ever
on June 20, 2022
Posted by: sonotswifty
i had bought this stormtrooper a few years ago and it broke the first year of operation. the gearbox sounds horrible. it still does suck up but it tends to get lost on its way back to its base. it has no remote and doesn't connect to smartthings. it will suck up anything that our pets leave on the ground. the imperial march becomes annoying when it goes back to its base. it's horrible. do not buy.

Works just dandy!

Product works great! Lots of transitions : wood to Saltillo tile, carpet to wood. The smaller lighter throw rugs need to be taken up because they have fringes on the ends that would most likely get tangled it. I am amazed at its navigation ability, misses very very little. I moved some chair a bit so it had space to move under and between things.
The Star Wars theme music and command voice responses are fun. My first robot vaccumn and I love it. I cut 1" x 2" wood pcs to length that fit snugly on the ends as a barrier in front of areas that I did not want it to go., mainly in front of stairs. He is a pretty strong little guy and he pushes and moves light weight things. Probably up grade to one with remote control when needed down the road.
Pros: Realistic color, Durable, Lightweight

It has problems

I have wood floors, and in my living room, a have a rug. The vacuum did the cleaning in all areas adjacent to the carpet, but it never went over the rug.
Additionally, I have a threshold changing floor finishes. For example from the wood floor goes to Ceramic in the kitchen area. The vacuum never crossed the threshold. So you need to be there to lift the Vacuum and move it into another area, such kitchen, bathroom, etc.
Pros: Bright display, Lightweight
Cons: Did not meet expectations

I wanted to like this product

Note: this is the Stormtrooper Edition. The Darth Vader may be better with the option for firmware updates, but I am not confident after my experience.
I would have given this product 4 stars had I reviewed this within my first 6 months of owning the product, but it had enough decent reviews that I didn't feel the need to do so. I've come here to retract that sentiment as this product has progressively gotten worse, and now unusable.
I owned this product for less than two years. It worked fine at first - decent suction power (though we had to clean often for fur), got in corners, etc..exactly what one would expect from early times of robot vacuums. Software malfunctions, however, consistently became more frequent; the powerbot would suddenly start jerking and spinning in circles (I have a video but the review section does not support videos outside of YouTube). I didn't think anything of it until I had come home to property damage (see the mirror pictures). This mirror had a metal frame and was fairly heavy - not something that would be casually knocked over - and the vacuum is supposed to gently approach objects and walls. In fact, I had seen it function fine with the mirror so I can assume it was not an issue with reflection.
Now two weeks after this incident, the vacuum has stopped working completely. It wasn't jerking but instead was turning off after 5 minutes of starting it, so I "sent it home" at which point it smelled of burning. It seems the battery has internally exploded.
I loved the nerdiness of this product which admittedly ultimately why I decided to purchase the product. Unfortunately the product was not up to an acceptable standard. I will certainly not be buying from Samsung again.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
