This is the second Thinkpad I brought (The first one is W500). It is pretty good for the first three weeks, and I don't see any significant problems. The only thing I wanna comment is the adapter. I can hear some buzzing noise from the adapter when the battery is not charged. The noise isn't loud, and I can only hear it when the room is very quite (at mid-night or in a library). Not sure whether this is a problem.

Great All-Around Mobile Workstation

I bought my Thinkpad P51 just over a month ago as an upgrade from an older Thinkpad E555. I am currently in my third year of mechanical engineering school so my use of the Thinkpad is mainly for Solidworks and ANSYS as well as writing notes in Word and crunching numbers in Excel. It has been performing extremely well to date.
One of the things that surprised me is how cool it manages to stay under full load. Under full load the CPU can maintain between 3.5-3.6GHz speeds while also maintaining the full load of the GPU with no throttling there. Most laptops I have used in the past have throttled back to the base clock speed of the CPU to not overheat. I'm guessing the dual fan design of this laptop really helps here.
My biggest surprise however was how long the battery lasts when in battery saver mode and at 50% screen brightness. I could easily get 10+ hours out of the battery and even managed to get 15 hours out of it the one day. Of course this was achieved only when I was doing tasks such as web browsing or writing notes in class. Open Solidworks or ANSYS and this battery life disappears pretty quickly which is to be expected as it is a much more taxing workload.
Mine is configured with a:
- Intel Xeon E3-1505m v6
- Nvidia Quadro M2200
- 16GB of RAM
- 512GB M.2 NVME SSD
- 1080p non-touch display
- X-Rite Colorimeter
Overall, a solid product that I have already recommended to various others.

Very Disappointing

This computer has been buggy from the start. I thought that by investing in a high-end machine I'd avoid some of that headaches that come with lower-end laptops. Quite the opposite. Unfortunately, I'm knee-deep in the major project which was the main impetus to buy this computer, so I haven't had time to attempt to trouble-shoot or follow up with Lenovo.

Laptop is powerful enough to run CAD programs which is great. The only reason I didn't give the laptop 5 stars is because of the keyboard. Keyboard works well it just feel a little clunky.

Fast & Powerful. Changed careers to a structural design role and needed to switch to PC. This machine is powerful enough to grow with. I was a Mac user for 20 years and won't be looking back.
