How do I clean the pump mechanism? It is moldy on the inside and no longer safe for food.

Best salad spinner ever!

I actually have 2 of these, the big 1 for company snd the small 1 for when I'm cleaning lettuce just for me. I had the larger 1 first but it was too big to use when it was just me. Too my delight I saw you make a smaller 1 which is really perfect for 1 person. When not in use, the smaller one fits into the larger 1. When I need products, I always look to see if Oxo makes them. Have never been disappointed in any of your products!

Salad Spinner - SKU:32480V2B

I usually love the OXO products. Not the case with this salad spinner. I wish OXO would go back to their old design for the salad spinner. This one doesn't spin as fast and the lettuce stays wet, which doesn't hold onto the salad dressing. This design just doesn't meet my expectations. I will purchase a different brand until OXO gets a better design.

Loved this spinner until now

I completely detached all parts to clean. There was mold in the mechanical area. I used bleach which removed it all. After putting it back together..it won’t spin. I suggest moving lettuce to another bowl after spinning and never put the spinner in the refrigerator to store lettuce before eating it.

An experienced spinner has something to say

Many years ago I purchased a Zyliss salad spinner and my friend purchased the style with the rip cord, or “lawnmower” style. For years we had friendly text message exchanges at who had the better spinner. These came usually when we were both cooking dinner and using our spinners to make salad. Eventually the large “paddle” on my Zyliss broke in half. BUT I could still use it! Inconvenient? Yes. Functional. Yes! Sadly, mine fully gave up the ghost about a decade or so after I purchased it. She had “won” the battle as her lawnmower pull style salad spinner was still going strong. I decided to level up and go with the beastly OXO large spinner as I own many OXO products and know the brand name well. The first few attempts were met with good, pump style muscle memory, just like the old Zyliss. I still had to spin the bundle of greens about three times, tossing it around a bit each time I stopped, to make sure it was fully dry. Ok. No big deal there. Then, I encountered the device coming to a sudden, and catastrophic stop. Your pumping along then something happens. It comes off kilter and bam! It goes from 60mph to 0mph in a half second. This is not enjoyable to me. I means I have to readjust the lid, bowl, etc. and make sure things are perfectly lined up then use energy to begin the pumping again. Sometimes, it happens immediately after. This situation is absolutely devastating for me. It’s not enough to send the item back or change products but I dislike it strongly and it means I either have this awful thing happen each time I use it or I don’t but I spend the whole time I’m pumping thinking, “it’s going to happen! It’s going to happen!” And it doesn’t. So then, it’s just a mental game. Or, one might say a really terrible user experience. So, I would not buy another of these spinners nor recommend it. The worst is that I have to hear about how my friend’s 15 year old spinner is still kicking my butt!
One particularly bad evening even prompted me to write a haiku (for my friend) about the spinner to try and convey how angry I was at having an extra poor experience. My agony is your gain. Enjoy it!

Mine can’t take much lettuce

I bought my Oxo salad spinner a couple of years ago to replace one that I had for many years and was excellent but hard to clean, probably from oxidation in the water. This one doesn’t hold many greens at all. I find that if the level is above the center prong it doesn’t really spin so I have to remove some greens and do two batches. Is the one you’re advertising an improvement on this? I’m certainly disappointed.

Cleaning nightmare
on July 12, 2024

"Fool me once........" I've allowed Oxo to bamboozle me twice, an older large spinner and a new small one both have lids that allow tiny, tiny pieces of berries, arugula, etc. to sneak into the small open crevices. Not good if you want to avoid foodborne illness, so the lid must be fully disassembled for cleaning. Several Youtube videos, some better than others, show guys who are proud of their success because unlike me, they easily reassembled the many small parts and had the spinner whizzing again. After all these years Oxo's contraption is still ridiculous to maintain, and has left me with a 2-month-old second unusable spinner.
